Personally, I'm not a fan of cheap (not cost, but quality) wheels, and Drag, Rota, etc fall into that catagory. RPF1's aren't actually that expesive at all. I want to say that when I bought the 17x7's for my P5 with tires was only like $1400 total. For the size you're looking for you should be able to find them >$200 but <$300.

I have another set of RPF1's (what can I say ) on the RX-7. 16x8 +32 with 225/50R16 tires so they'll definitely look huge and poke on your car, but it might give you an idea...

Ya, I feel you on the cheap quality... Although if they made some Rotas in better sizes and fitments for what I needed, then I would not be opposed to running a set of Rotas... From what I've seen tho, Rota doesn't make a lot of wheels in a 5x114.3 & 67.1 hb.

That's not too far off what size I would want... I would want a 16x8 +40 (I think it would be a +42 with the Enkei's) and I would likely run a 225/45R16 tire...

Haha, I'm an engineer so there's no way I'd win in a financial argument.

She mainly just had issues with hyperdrive and HPDE as those are pretty much just driving around a track at high speeds with no (apparent) goal. She has no problem with SCCA Solo or NASA TT because at least there is some reward system (trophy, awards, etc.). Once I told her HPDE 1-4 were a stepping stone to TT she warmed up to that idea. Now to convince her the $360/weekend is worth it...

Jon, there is some obviuos rewards from a driving standpoint. You will become a better driver while on the street as you can see what happens long before the other no driving clowns in Ohio realize what they are doing. I can't tell you how many times Lauri and I have avoided accidents because of the instruction we've received.

You also learn the limits of your car and yourself as a driver too! Once you get to HPDE 4 you can become an instructor and cut your costs that way as well.

Honest opinion... 17x8 is difficult to stuff under a protege without rolling fenders and having the perfect offset + tire combo. I'd go with the 7.5's.

17x7.5 +42 is roughly "flush" (not herrafrush...). You will need a fender roll or you will rub when you take corners hard, tho. You should be able to judge off that. +48 should be free of rubs without any modifications.


Hey guys, shoot me your opinions on these. Are these good wheels? Cheap quality? They are light (13.9lbs in a 17x7...) and I may be able to pick up a set used, 17x7 +42... They seem to be RPF1 knock-offs...

Miata guys dig Koseis for their affordability and rather light weight. I don't really hear much bad about them.

Why is that exactly? Only thing I can think of is that if they don't do it properly it can structurally weaken the wheels...

From what I've read, if they do it right it doesn't harm the wheels, only if they don't do it properly. Too much heat, I guess?

Anodizing shouldn't affect structural integrity right?
