The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Hmmm, so it goes Ecsta AST, ASX and then SPT? SPT is the grand daddy of the Ecstas? Is that a summer tire? Cause I'm talkin more all season high performance... Proxes4 are all season.
All season and high performance do not belong in the same sentence to me. But yeah, Ecsta SPT is Kumho's ultra-high performance summer tire. They used to max a max. performance summer tire, the Ecsta MX but I believe those have been superceded by something else.

I'm not the one who classifies and names the types of tires :D Thats why there is no "ultra-high" performance all-season tire tho I guess.

The problem is finding tires in 205/40/17's.

Can you fit 215's on there? Scratch that, you can make em fit :D 215/45/17 ftw

215/45's are too tall. 215/40's are the max on the stock wheels. Can go 245/40/15 or something silly like that if I get 15x8's.

The treadwear on the Proxes4 is a little low (320 I think) but the all around performance for the price is really good IMO.

Really? I've had the Proxes4's on my P5 since I bought her and I really dislike them. I mean, to each their own of course, but I think these tires are terrible. They slip like crazy in all conditions. I'm going to buy new tires in a few months but have to rock the all seasons too, so I will probably go back to the Yokohama AS430's, or some Falkens FK's.

Falken's are pretty nice too, But I feel like the Proxes4 are one of the best wet traction tires I've ridden. That and they are quieter than some other tires I've ridden that had worse traction. I haven't tried yokohamas b4, I need to tho. Maybe my next set will have to be the AS430's...

I have Proxes4 on my Protege and T1-Rs on my Speed6. Both have been great tires for me but the wear is not as good as I would like (need to replace both, the Speed's are worse after just 22,000 miles). Probably going to go with Goodyear GTs for the Speed this time home, will do the Protege next time. Sucks that Edge Racing went out of business though, they had great prices and you could get just about any size you wanted.

That's true, they are pretty quiet... I liked the Yokohama's the most so far and reccomended them to my uncle on his M3 and he didn't like them. So I guess it's all up to personal taste.

I see you're rolling on 215/45-17's. Any rubbing issues? I would love to slip some 215/40-16 on my OEM wheels but don't want to rub on my Tein S-techs...

I have RS-R springs, pretty sure the drop is a little more than the tein s-techs. And the funny thing is, with Kumho Ecstas on I didn't rub, but with the Toyo Proxes4's, I get a VERY minor rub when I cut it all the way to the right. But as long as I don't take it that last 1/2" it's fine. It doesn't bother me at all.

i use nexen n3000, i hook up great.. treadwear is awesome.. very stable, they have a thicker rubber for the sidewalls... so you can corner harder..and they are much better priced than toyos and michelins

^^^ Hmmm, those do look very appealing, especially for that price. If they hook up with your motor, they certainly won't have any problem hooking up with mine. Haha

Have you tried them during the winter here in Ohio? They say all season.

Where did you find your Nexens? I need new tires for the Speed6, want to get something inexpensive but somewhat good (I know, those are opposing specs but I can't keep buying tires like my Toyo T1-Rs and getting only 22,000 miles out of them).

Heh. She's a bit tail happy in the rain. 1st thru 3rd are essentially useless for trying to get up to speed if you pull out in front of someone. 4th and 5th will break loose on an onramp in boost.

Other than that, it's awesome! Hahaha.

I belive it that thing is a little pocket rocket. My life flashed before my eyes (shocked) (j/k)when you turned down that road and went sideways toward an oncoming truck lol. Makes me envious I dont have RWD. I think next time you should let me take it for a spin haha Ill let you take the speed3 out for a run. I dont think it will blow ur socks off though the ecu has learned my grandma driving (just checked my trip computer I have been averaging 25 mpg for past 2k and I never drive on the highway!)

used them this past winter with those ice storms, never had an issue with them, they just are a great tire.. and are z rated to boot.. as for where to find them, i do belive that tire rack sells them, you might also just check on a google search.

Nope, not at Tire Rack. I tried searching already without a lot of success.

Heh yeah... I really need to stop doing that.

And that sounds like a plan to me. You'll hate that clutch! I definitely want to see how the coilovers affect the MS3.

I was in Tennessee this weekend with my band and saw a few nice Mazdas on the highways but couldn't get my camera phone started quick enough. But what's up with Kentucky's tint laws? They don't have any? Almost every car there had the front windows tinted at 15% and no front plates. Lucky bastards...

Found Nexen's on eBay, however no stock size available. I went instead with Eagle GTs from Tire Rack. Hopefully the protector lip will keep the wife from curbing the wheels any further.
