The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Picked up a set of stock steelies with snow tires today. They are a little more worn than I would have liked, but should still last a couple more seasons. I'm still interested in getting a set of wheels and tires if anyone has some for sale, for the summer. Going to sell the TSW Stealth (MX5) wheels that I took off.

And wouldn't you know, TODAY I lost one of the hub caps to these TSW wheels... argh.

I have the crazy polished/neon yellow/clear coated with glow in the dark clear Saturn wheels. They're 15x6 I believe. Pretty high offset though. +53 I think. They fit on the 2 though!

I agree with Jeans, house hunting sucks. I saw 4 this weekend, and boy does that just wear you out.

I hate myself for liking the one too, cause its still in Akron.

I'm two episodes behind on Top Gear. Have them on my desktop at home just haven't had the time to watch :(

That looks like a proper winter car Anthony.

After reading the latest GRM w/ the $2012 challange makes me want to give it a shot one day.

I think we should get a group of people together and do a crap can race.

That would be cool, but the numbers I ran last time were not that low. Basically, we would need at least 4 drivers, ideally 2 crew members on top of that. Each person would have to contribute around $2k for 1 race, maybe more to get started, subsequent races would be less. That goes towards: car, safety equipment, conditioning of the car (basic maintenance so it actually runs, and the theme), tires, brake pads, entry fees, gas, food, transportation, not to mention your own safety equipment (suit, gloves, shoes).

Unfortunately I'd be out, can't afford that with 3 ladies to maintain...

Sounds like fun, but I'm with Pablo. I have mouths to feed. :) That kart race you guys did last year looked like I lot of fun and I could definitley see myself doing that.

Depends what you can find on craigslist/ebay. The GRM challange would be more feasable with the set budget and I think less saftey rules (i.e. roll cage not mandatory) but does take place in Florida.

So you're saying 6 people x $2k each? That's $12k obviously, how did you spend all that on a $500 car?

Not saying you're wrong or anything, just curious how you broke that all down.

No, the 2 crew members wouldn't pay that much, they would mostly help out during pit stops, repairs or being spotters. That money includes the car, roll cage, tires, brake pads, maintenance so it actually runs for the whole race, entry fees per person are like $300, gas, food, transportation (might not be able to drive the car after the event), fire extinguisher, cheap gas pump (they don't allow refueling with a regular can), etc, etc

$500 car + $1500 to have a cage made & welded in + $300 seat + $300 fire system + a few sets of wheels + a few sets of tires + fuel + entry fees + helmet + driver's suit + gloves + shoes + nomex underwear + hotel + food + water + spare parts.

A LOT of it is one-time costs, so cost to run gets lower and lower the more you run the car, but if you're just going to run 1 event? Yeah, it's not just $500.

Guys, we all have resources that we could add to the mix. We all have wheels, tires, etc. We know people who can weld, we have access to people who may donate their time and look to partner up too. You have to look at the entire picture, not just the financial aspect of this. It can be done on the cheap, it is just a matter of looking at the big picture.

Prices might be reduced if we were to buy a car that has already been in one of those races, that would also save some trouble but it might be banged up. The fire system is not necessary, but its a good safety measure. We would also need regular extinguishers as they are required when refueling.

Also, having more than 4 people would help reduce the cost, we would have shorter driving stints (which would help at night) and allow more people to have fun, but too many people would be chaotic.

I don't remember if a "racing license" is required, might be included in the entry fee.
