The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

what does that really get you in the DC area?
We bought a 3br rowhouse in the high $300s

Granted it's an "up-and-coming" neighborhood but we've already gained some equity in the past 2 years

Holy crap, Will. I just googled an STi price. Wowie wow. Haha! I'm so cheap!

Yeah I won't be getting a house anytime soon. :D

Pretty sure you can pick up a MS3 of Focus ST for around $25k right?

My aunt has a condo in Rockville, MD outside DC and it was ridiculously expensive compared to houses around here.

Holy crap, Nate. May I borrow your credit and references? Haha

It's funny the thing about credit, I had one credit card when I was 19, botched my credit with it ($1k), paid everything off and haven't used a credit card since. I paid cash for all my cars since I was 18 (except for the silver P5, paid about $9 over a 2 year loan) and don't have any debt. I only buy what I can afford or save up for and have been at my job for 9-1/2 years, own two cars in my name but yet, my credit still probably looks like crap since I don't have any credit.

I will check my credit reports again this month (once a year it's free) and pay to see my credit score since I'm curious. But buying a house someday would be great, though very scary. I'm afraid of commitment. Unless it's to my GF or my P5. Hahaha

Do you have any utility bills or cell phone in your name? That builds your credit also.

I bet with your debt to income ratio (being debt free) and not having negative credit marks, plus being at your job so long, you will have no problems at all.

Condo living might not be right for gear heads. Most HOA's are pretty strict about the number of vehicles for each unit. Loud exhaust is also frowned upon. You might not even be allowed to work on your car/s in the driveway.

Evan you might need to have a few credit cards just to get your credit established. They like to see that you can handle a small loan/line of credit before you can get a larger loan.

Evan, get a credit card for fuel, and each day you get gas, go home and pay that s*** off.

^Not a good way to do it. They need for you to actually owe money and show that you can pay it back. A better way would be to charge something and pay it off in 2 payments.

don't you already have a house?

Yeah, it's part of the farm though so I don't own it.

I have 1 credit card that gets used just for DirecTV, my gym membership, Verizon, and my internet bills every month. Then I pay it off. If it does nothing else it gets me a couple percent cash back.

I've had the whole "you need good credit!" pounded in my head since I was little. Had my first credit card at 15, joint with my mom to start building it. She came up with the idea of letting me use that as my allowance from chores and she would then pay it off. Of course I had no clue about limits so when she said it only had $20 on it, that's all I would use it for.

Yeah, I should do that. I can get a credit card through Guitar Center, buy a cheap ($500) bass and pay it off in a couple months. That should look good. And I've got car/renters insurance, cell bill and only 2 utilities in my name (Phen has the other two) so they don't add much.

I'm just ranting that my credit score doesn't reflect me as a person, nor does my car insurance. And it makes me salty. Haha, sorry. But the home purchase chat in here today is interesting. I know I'll talk to Marlon when the time comes. Gotta get married to improve my credit score first. Haha

Actually, there are mixed reviews on that. Your credit score doesn't necessarily go up by getting married. How much debt does Tessa have? You may be better off just using you for the mortgage. That's how we are doing ours, to skip that my wife's student loans.

Sit down with Marlon and talk out all our options, and see what is best for you. As for interest rates, right now, I've been told they will be going up soon.

Correct, you're score then becomes a collective score of the two of you.

Getting married had absolutely no effect on my credit score.
