Buying a house is the scariest thing we ever did... and while it's a good investment in the long run because a good chunk of what you're paying monthly is going into equity instead of just into a landlord's pocket, it's expensive to have to fix and maintain everything, especially on the onset. It's the things you don't think about... like the 30-foot extension ladder I had to buy this weekend when it was nice out; never had to clean the gutters along the roof when I was in rentals!

and I chose fuel economy over performance with the new car...

I'm still debating what I want for my 8 mile drives, as much as I love/hate the MSP, I think it's a never ending battle if I build the motor of things going wrong.

yeah, I still go back and forth between a house and a condo. A condo would mean I don't have to worry about a few things (like snow) but I have to pay monthly fees... what pulls me back towards a house is being able to have a bonfire whenever the hell I want (and store all my car parts somewhere other than my living room)

If you travel for work a condo is great because you don't have to take car of any yard crap

I don't travel that much, except for corrals. I do want to go to Europe for a couple of weeks in the future... but that's the other thing, I'd like to have a 'small' yard to minimize work and maintenance on it while still having enough room for a fire pit, a meet every now and then and of course 2 cars and a trailer, maybe a bike in the future...

you would still have to check local ordinances for fires, some townships dont allow you do have open fires

Copley, Twinsburg, Aurora, Amherst. I found one in Aurora in my price range, really nice, another one in Amherst but over my range and too much land, big barn for a garage though.

Stay away from condos, in genral they are very difficult to sell. I think Jamie took 4 yrs to sell his, and my brother has one that he is renting out because it just won't sell.

My buddy just bought a forclosed house with a 3/4 acre lot. Small 2bedroom house which is perfect for him and his wife, but the topper is the garage. A 2 door garage that you can pull in 2 deep making it a 4 car garage and he has extra working space. I'm jelly, but I would need a 3 bedroom house for the kids and would rather live outside of the city limits.

Found one there, seems decent in the photos and has a good layout, very cheap BUT needs a lot of work... not sure I wanna deal with that (Marc, this house is why I asked about septic\well). The condos I saw are also in Copley, the other reason I was considering them is that they're cheaper, have what I need (for now) and instead of selling it later I could rent it, but who knows if that's easier than selling

dude, if i can afford one on my salary, you can afford one on yours... hell i bet you could get one for what you are paying in rent or close to it
