The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

haha, like I don't want her to have to be replacing a bunch of stuff as soon as she gets it because the life of the part is done. I mean I could get the seller to come down in price if that's the case. She wants something that is quick but not insane (speed3 cough cough) and that can handle the twistie back roads around my place. she wants to be able to run with me. She is molding into a little car nut.

MSP is perfect for that, but you are dealing with a 10-11 year old car. Stuff is going to start needing replaced but since 90% of the car is just like any other protege parts are cheap and it's an easy car to work on, most days.

Jake, we should get a dinner meet for next week now that the holidays are over with.

Wednesday January 16th 7pm Akron Area Dinner meet anyone?

Wednesday could work for me. I have school till around 5ish I think but I should be good after that. Back into homework mode :(

Dammnit, Jake. When IS a good day for you then? I'm just throwing out dates to get this started because no one else ever does. lulz. I'm down whenever.

Have your sister get a Miata they are fun to drive, parts are cheap,
and if you get one with an LSD and snow tires they are good in the snow.
A hard top help as well.
I drove one for 3-4 years as a DD and just did basic maintenance.
also insurance is reasonable.

What's her budget?

We could always make a twin of mine and have her pass you in the twisties :)

ok, sister is looking for a new car (well new to her) we have plenty of time to look. She just lost her license for a ticket so she has time lol. She asked me what car to look for and I pointed her in the direction of the protege. She looked for a little bit and responded with "ok, but only the speed will cut it" following in my footsteps (tears of joy). So my question is to you protege guys, what should I keep an eye out for when we go to look, and would anyone be up to meet us at a dealership or with someone to look it over with us? it will be her first stick shift car.

Stay away from anything that spent any more than 1 winter in Ohio.

Has anybody tried any of the short shifter options on the 3's? I had a b&m short shifter on the protege and I kinda miss the short and tighter throw. I see there's both a shifter and an adapter plate option.

If you like the stock knob height but just want a shorter throw, best to go with the plate IMO, otherwise shorter shifter is the answer. You can also combine them but that might be too excessive in some cases...

This sucks! I am hobbled with a broken leg and our 3 has a brake issue and a CEL. The brakes grind once in a while, and all 4 rotors show a lot of rust on the outsides. My father-in-law is looking at the brakes (inner pad and rotor surface) for me. Autozone says the CEL is low coolant temp. The gauge shows normal operating temp. I need to check the coolant level still but my guess is the coolant temp sensor needs replaced. Any thoughts?

like vikonic said, you can either go short throw shifter or adapter plate, i personally love my TWM, but ive heard good things about some of the adapter plates if you want a shorter throw but dont want a shorter knob height

another thing that helps clean up the "sloppiness" of the oem shifter is some solid shifter bushings.
