The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Dempsey and Sahlen's will still be running the RX-8's and SpeedSource will be running the new Skyactiv-D in the GX Class. Also, the Skyactiv-D race motor will be used in ALMS P2 Class as well. You guys will also be the first to see and hear the announcement of what car is going to be used in Grand-Am

Where will we see/hear this? And how are Dempsey/Sahlen still able to run the RX-8? I thought it had to be based on a car presently in production per the GT rules?

if only i had gotten a card like this, the past weekend... LMAO!!

Ha I just saw that. Love it.

i bet its the 6... haha

That would be a disappointment after the RX-8. Whenever they do stop running the 8's I'm really going to miss that sound they make. Simply awesome.

The RX-8 is in limited production in Japan, so it still can be raced in the series. With the new motor we will have a Mazda with TORQUE!

That makes sense. But this will presumably be the last year for it no?

Some of race, some of us auto-x and some of us do both. A good number of us attend races at various tracks. We will have two fairly large meets, The Mohican Fun Run, at Mohican State Park. and the Team Sahlen Shop Tour, dinner and raffle. Both events will take place in October, we will post up the dates on the boards as soon as we have them.

I think I'll come to that Mohican Fun Run because Mohican is only about an hour or so from where I live, the bad part is I won't have my rota torques by then :( so my car won't look awesome lol. Ill have to try and talk to my gf about it when the time comes, so I can go alone. ( she is always stuck to my leg). I think I'd have a great time though, meeting new people and dicking off with my car and so on lol

To whoever mentioned the hawk pads rattling, have you taken the wheel off and inspected them?? Reason I say this is because my HP+ on the Miata had some issues and I wasn't the only one. People claimed they never heard any noise but I call major BS. The backing plate came unglued on mine and started digging into the [turning] rotor. You can imagine what that started to do... Cut the rotor in half. The guy who claimed he didn't hear metal on metal contact actually had the backing plate cut ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE ROTOR! Check em to be sure!

And +1 on Applebee's. Not a fan. I'm not a food snob but I have not been impressed with Texas longhorn/ Applebee's/fridays/etc lately.

Looking at coming up sometime next year for a Mid-Ohio event. Any tips or suggestions on where to stay at? (hotel wise)

Also any good restaurants I should try?

That would be awesome, Cres! You know you'e more than welcome to stay at our place, man. :)

Marlon made the mistake of mentioning Patrick Dempsey so the wife is most likely coming. I think it would be easier if we stayed at a hotel if she does come. But thank you for the offer, I will keep it in mind if I come alone.

What are the major airports that a near there (within 5 hours) Just looking at tickets it would cost me $800ish to fly into Cleveland. I dont mind driving the price will be significantly cheaper. =) I was thinking Chicago, or Phili. Havent really looked at those options yet though.

My Hawk pads never rattled. I don't use the metal backing plate that comes as part of the "hardware kit" from Mazda with aftermarket pads. And make sure the spring clips are properly installed.

Awesome place to stay: http://thepaddockinn.com/
Not sure about restaurant options close to Mid-Ohio as I rarely eat around there.

CMH (Columbus), CAK (Akron-Canton), and CLE (Cleveland) are all within about 2 hours from Mid-Ohio or less. Cincinnati is probably within the 5 hour range. My wife got to meet Patrick Dempsey last year which of course made her year so now she comes each year to the race lol.

I'm unsure of which backing plate you're talking about, I've never seen the hardware kit Mazda sells. But I meant the metal part GLUED onto the hawk pad came off. It was bizarre.

Oh... that's very odd indeed. Upper right are the backing plates I'm talking about:

They just clip to the back of OE pads. I believe they would go on aftermarket pads as well but I just took them off.
