The Ohio Auto-X and Track Event chat thread

Patrick, I'll send you a pic of my DW's after 2 auto-x events. They worked well enough for DD tires. Really soft sidewalls.

Me? Oh wait, yeah. I had your old 215/45-17 but never ran them. I sold them to Wes last summer who mounted them to his Enkei's for his (my old) P5 that will never get finished.

Just got back from Barber Motorsports Park, which is now my second favorite track of the ones I've been to. Absolutely gorgeous facility, and awesome track. It is very technical just like Mid-Ohio and a few of the corners are comparable to those at Mid-Ohio. The thing that really makes it fun, and challenging, is the is elevation change all over the place. The only place it is really flat is the front straight.

The trip is definitely worth it, it took us probably around 10.5-11 hours with the truck/trailer at a leisurely pace (stopping to sit down and eat meals, etc.).

The view from the third floor of the building on the main straight. The track covers a relatively small area so you can see probably 60-70% in this picture.

Barber Motorsports Park is the home to the Porsche Sport Driving school, if you look closely at the left side of the photo there are some yellow cars and a ton of silver ones. Those are all brand new Porsches that the school uses.

Barber famously has these metal sculptures everywhere, this bee was waiting for me on one of the staircases in the main garage building:

The STi is every bit as capable on track as the Porsches I was out there with; I'm extremely impressed. There is a very good chance it will be making an appearance at Mid-Ohio a couple of times this summer.

I have a couple great videos that I'm uploading right now.

Very nice Will! I might have to make the trip out there in the future. Looking forward to some videos!

I can't wait till next season. Now will time to beat those other cars and make the sti a monster...

Haha I'll pass. I don't need/want a bazillion horsepower. I'd rather have a tricked out suspension setup with great brakes and a few sets of super sticky tires.

Awesome video, Will. That angle looks pretty cool too. I don't know much about anything but that looks like a really fast track, no? I would be too scared. Haha. The STi sounds really good too.

Very fun, very challenging. Turns 4 (0:21), 9-10 (1:07), and 12 (1:25) are all very challenging (read: scary) but lots of fun when you get it right. I actually turn in a little early at 10 and was super close to going for a ride on the extra pavement that's past the curb.

The STi sounded awesome! The video really doesn't do it justice. I thought it was faster too, but I went back and looked and my average speed at Mid-Ohio was about the exact same. Granted they are two different cars, but I think it works itself out as I couldn't carry nearly as much speed through corners as I can with the Miata.

First 17-18 minutes of the session that the best lap is from if anyone is interested. The stinking GoPro will record a max of like 20 minutes due to file size limitations, and there is no way for me to easily combine them with the software on my work computer. Haha.
