The Next Gen Pro, the wait may be over soon

Can't wait to see it....I just hope it's not ugly because I think the pro5 looks good the way it is right now, so if they change it to look ugly i'll be very angry!!! LOL

Here are some spy pics of the new Mazda3 hatch. There is a big obstruction at the back hiding whether or not it's a hatch like the Mazda6 or closer to a wagon like the present P5.

In these pictures, if you look through the rear window at the C&D pillars, it looks like a small window sloping down more like a sedan/hatch than the P5:

You can see that the front end resembles the Mazda6, as do the taillights.

from looking at that picture, you can definately see 6's influence on the head lights. The grill....well...it seems too tall for the front of the car. I like the low profile of the current P5.

thats a nice looking car.... i love the 6's lights front and back... and in that spy shot it somewhat seems to have that style of rear lights.... i wish i could have those... thats one small think i was not that thrilled about when i bought my P5... not saying i dont like them, but i was "ify" on them.......

goddamn 3 series is going to be nice.......

thats really nice

It looks real to me, and it seems to jibe with the camouflaged car in the post above.

I'm hoping my MSP doesn't show up before the new 3 is unveiled at least. I'm not is desperate need of a car right now, and I'd like to know what's in the works for 2004 before I settle for a 2003 (or 2003.5). If a Mazdaspeed 3 gets announced with a 2.3L turbo, well, I'm sure you can guess my decision.

JasonH, nice find...although they do look a tad fake.

Nuke posted preview pics of the 3 (btw, i assume it's the protege replacement?) awhile back...

They're pretty consistent with the pics above and come from a respected source (AutoBild.) I'm sure they've been enhanced, but I think the only thing that could be seriously off is the rear quarter windows. They might be shaped like that (it's consistent with Mazda's show cars) or they could be more traditional.

Yes, the Protege will cease to exist after 2003/2003.5. 2004 is an all new car. I want them to announce the Mazdaspeed 3 at Geneva too, so I can be torn between 3 different cars (2003 MSP, 2003.5 MSP and 2004 MSP.)

This is the site (translated by google) where the pics of the Mazda 3 came from (Autobild)

EDIT: nevermind...it doesn't work that way

This is how it was translated:

A little Alfa (Design), completely much Ford (basis) - the new Mazda3 is finished. AUTO PICTURE shows, how will look the 323 successors. And betrays, what he can do.

30.01.2003 - Mazdas success balance of the last months can be able to be seen: In the black the team from Hiroshima with the new Mazda6 met, and also the Mazda2 has that things to the success model. In October 2003 the third caper follows with the Mazda3.

The successor 323 is the first car on the new C-platform (compact class) - the Ford focus and the second edition of the Volvo S40/V40 are not series ripe against it before end of 2004. Martin Leach knows exactly, what comes to him: "much driving dynamics for relatively little money - we will have ourselves to exert."

The Mazda3 comes four weeks to the world premiere on the IAA at the same time as schraegheck and as sedan on the market. Follow a fuenftueriger high roof combination as if awake-replace for the Premacy and a not yet officially confirmed viersitziges Cabriolet, whose Dachmimik is to take loans with the Ford focus and with the Volvo C50. Conceivable is also a sporty Dreituerer, which already today a second career is forecast as low-priced basis model for the spreading haven - in connection with all-wheel drive and turbo-power.

For the start there are three engines: • 1,4-Liter-16V, gasoline, 80 HP • 1,6-Liter-16V, gasoline, 100 HP • 1,6-Liter-16V, Diesel, 110 HP. In the middle of 2004 starts then 140 HP strong 2,0-Liter-Benziner. Also two new gasoline direct A splashes possess firm one commitment on the play plan.

Our base engine will probably be the 2.0L with the 2.3L in the ES. I wonder if that German 140HP 2.0L is the current engine or a smaller version of the 2.3L?

well if that is actually it.....in my opinion they totally screwed up the back.....the way the roofline curves down in the back it looks like the roofline of the Matrix and Vibe....which I also hate. the lack of a rear spoiler....and no rack....if that is what the P5/mazda3 is.....then I might be waiting to see what a 5th Gen has to hold....that or going up to a 6. Of course....then again....you just never know what they may do for the N.A. cars....

if they make the p5 bigger than it already is, I wont like it. it's borderline station wagon, only not because it has less cargo area than most compact car trunks.

It doesn't look bigger than the current car by much.

I think the reason the back looks weird on that concept/spy photo is because it came from Europe where they have a dozen different 4-door hatchbacks that look similar to that. I think the artist made it look too much like a golf. I think it will look different, more like the current hatch. Those rear quarter windows might be different too.
