The New Nissan Silvia? FR Compact Sports Concept

The S12 chassis in North America was badged 200SX. The Coupe was available with the CA20E while the Hatchback received the CA20E or CA18ET. In 1987 in the United States, Nissan discontinued putting the CA18ET into the Hatchback and created the SE model which had the potent VG30E generating 160hp and 165hp in 1987/88 with the introduction of the "W" series engine which had floating piston wrist pins.

The S13, S14, and S15 JDM Silivas were also badges as 200SX. The 95-99 B14 Sentra coupe was called the 200sx with the QA16de and as the SE-R with the SR20de.

News to me. You learn something new every day.

What? The S13, and S14 were badged here in the US as 240SX, they have nothing to do with the Sentra/200SX with chassis codes B13-B16.

Unless you're talking about in Japan. But in the US, only S12=Sentra. S13 and S14 were the 240SX.

Anywho, doesn't look too bad. Hopefully it's good competition for the Genesis from Hyundai. Nissan guys have been asking for a RWD coupe for a while.

The Genesis coupe will compete with the 350Z, but for about $5000 less to start. This wouldn't really have any direct competitors at the moment.

Not much competition if you ask me. The Genesis coupe, like the Mustang it competes with, is far too big to compete with an athletic 2 seater like the 350z. One's a GT and the other's a track car. Both serve their purpose well

Yes, both the S13 and S14 were 240sxs here in the states. In the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) they were badged as 200Ssx or 180sx. The JDM Silva did not use the KA24de like the US market 240sxs.The B14 was the only Sentra to use the 200sx nameplate and was sold from 96-99. Which was the last time Nissan used 200SX in the US. S12 does not equal Sentra.

Carlos Gohsn was asked about the Silvia in Japan, Australia and even the US. His response to the "Silvia" question was simply "It is a good time to be a Nissan fan. S16 Silva?????

I use to own a bunch of Firebirds/Trans Ams and a 88 200sx with pop up headlamps. Man they sucked when it was either cold or broken.

in theory, they were cool... but i never really cared for em. aside from them breaking rather easily and of course the aerodynamic issues, they didn't look very good when up (with the exception of the Porsche 928) not to mention.... like tails, headlights (combined with a grill) can help define a car... give it some personality. hell...for me, every car is like a car in 'cars'... they've all got faces....

whoa... sorry for the tangent

S16 Silva?????

It would be a very smart move on their part to release the GTR and the silvia at the same time (especially if they are releasing them in the US)...then all the potential GTR buyers without the cash to afford one will likely buy a silvia. The popularity of both cars has become so huge that I think it would be a great business move on their part to release both together...neither one will likely take business away from the other.

2L FR Nissan Silvia (S16) Scooped

The latest issue of Best Car from Japan says they have scooped the 2L FR sports coupe from Nissan. The chief editor claims this is confirmed within Nissan and it is to be the revival of the popular Nissan Silvia.

The release schedule is in 2010 and price range should be around $17,000 to $21,000. The platform could be from the new Z. To keep this price range, the engine is said that it can come from Renault in France, Nissan's parent company. A Silvia with a Frenchy engine? Hmm, not quite sure now if the French can make an engine to match up the SR20DET? But hold on, the Renault Megane sport is packed with a turbo charged 2.0-litre motor that produces 225 bhp, allowing the car to achieve 0-100km/h in 6.5 s (0-60 mph in 6.3 s), with a top speed of about 240 km/h (150 mph). Maybe a cool affordable FR coupe in the making here...Look out for the S16 Silivia!

The cover also says that the Mazda RX-8 will undergo its first (big) minor change since its launch 5 years ago. You can see the front bumper and head lights have changed to a more sportier look. This new Mazda RX-8 will be on display at the coming Tokyo Auto Salon in January and sales will commence at the end of January.

lol that reminds me of the SLR mclaren and ferrari enzo where they tried to copy the nosecone design of F1 cars.

Nissan to take on the Toyota/Subaru alliance with a sub-2.0L sports coupe… and arrive sooner.
Last year we reported on the existence of aToyota/Subaru lightweight sports carwhich was music to the ears of AE86 or ‘Hachi Roku’ fans around the world who have been eagerly awaiting a successor to their much loved and much respected small car. Well Nissan isn’t going to let such a move by Toyota go unanswered with the news that there is a test mule undergoing trials at the moment based on the new Z-car platform with a 2.0L NA, or possibly a 1.6 - 1.8L turbo engine.

Initial reports stated that the Toyota/Subaru FR sports car would enter the market in early 2010, but that has since been put back to 2011. The biggest news is that Nissan are aiming to beat Toyota and bring their new FR sports competitor to market in the ‘latter half’ of 2010. Nissan have acknowledged the lack of an entry level sports car to appeal to younger buyers and this new FR based coupe is being designed with “enjoyable handling” in mind to keep them from turning to other manufacturers. The size of the car closely resembles the previous S15 Silvia, the new FR coupe’s dimensions being 4350mm in length, 1750mm in width and with a wheelbase identical to the the new Fairlady/350 Z platform of 2550mm. As with the Toyota/Subaru sports car, the new Nissan compact FR sports coupe will attempt to keep weight at a minimum, although the extent of which is unknown at present.

It’s possible that a 2.0L NA engine with a higher output will power the compact FR sports car range, with totally new 1.6L or 1.8L direct injection turbo engines also being considered for the task. The smaller capacity turbo engines are looking favorable at this point, largely due to the inclusion of Nissan’s VCR (Variable Compression Ratio) Piston-Crank System which will improve fuel economy - like that of a small capacity NA engine around town - and also provide high power when needed. The VCR equipped 1.6L turbo engine was mentioned along with the Roundbox concept at last years Tokyo Motor Show so it could very well make it into the compact FR sports coupe. Best Car calculates that around 150ps will be available in high compression mode, with anything up to 225ps in low compression turbocharged mode.
At this point the price is expected to be kept under the 2,500,000 yen mark.
