2003 Mazda Protege 5
Actually its a 2003.5 Protege5 Sport-Tronic Automatic. Got a little bored at work one day, bought a shift boot and a shift knob and this is what I came up with. Let me know what you guys think.

P.S. - To account for the nasty holes in my cup holder: I had to cut them up to fit my screen in there. The picture is also in my attachments list now. Thx.

did you jus relote your OD button somewhere else? And what about the button to move the shifter?

why did you put a screen behind the shifter? isn't it covering the view of the monitor when you are in park?

he has the sport-tronic auto...not the one from the '02 p5s only...this one actually looks like your shifting...in a way...

btw, it looks good, although the screen's place confuses me a little...

There's no OD on the sportmatics?

I was lucky enough to get the model with the shifter that did not have the push button to get out of park. Personally that button really bothers me and I am glad I dont have to deal with it. As for OD, I was told that it kicks in automatically when you push the accelerator all the way down, but I dont know. My mazda dealer told me a lot of B.S. to make the sale.

As for screen position, in Park it did block the screen a little not so much after the new shift knob, but the main purpose of the screen was for my girl to watch movies while i drove from GA to FLA, so theoretically it was never a problem cause the only time I used it was when the car was in drive anyways.

lol obviously...OD doesn't "kick" in when you go wot, that guy lied..

Did you make that screen mount yourself? I really want one there for gps! Let me know how you did it please!

Thanks!

I did make the screen mount myself. I just took some 1/4" MDF and a LOT of time perfecting edges and then covered it in Heat Formable Vinyl. I had to chop up the cup holders to fit the depth of the screen. The pioneer screen I was using had a slightly oversized depth as it was never meant to be mounted in anything aside from the adhesive duck foot that comes with it. So I had to modify the cup holder corners to fit the screen in flush with the piece I made and the rest of the dash.

P.S. - Rockin out a block down the road from UF.

Looks good, wondered if anyone had done that yet.

And btw the little button to get out of park wasn't something that had to be used all the time. Anyone here that has to use it has something wrong with their tranny. That button is only used when the car goes into safe mode for a techincal issue.

Interesting...do you have any trouble locating gears (reverse, tiptronic, etc.)? I know there are indicator lights on the dash, but I'm trying to remember how complicated the pattern was on my old tiptronic.

The pattern is pretty simple since it is gated.

Ok that is my crappy drawing of it. But you can't simply force it into reverse or park while driving, and it is pretty easy to till when you have it in drive and reverse by the position of the stick. I never look at any of the indicators.
