The Great Switch-box Adventure

OK...I spoke with the manager and he has agreed to get the switching box installed...this (of course) was after I told him that I had spoken to various other dealerships in surrounding area who would do the install. I also spoke with the folks at Oak Tree Mazda and they were very helpful, too (Thanks, acuirczak!!) I think it boiled down to a $$ issue...which is really lame given how much the car costs to begin with.

I am taking the car in Thursday and will let you know how it goes.

UPDATE: Got the switching box...very happy. Took a little over an hour to get installed.

Finally, The Great Switch Box Adventure ends!

The great switch box adventure is over.
Moved to another dealer to get the work done.
Mazda recommend that the NAV unit be replaced.
So they guy put in a brand new $4K unit and then noticed that a wire was broken leading from the blue tooth button to the hands free unit. Ouch!
A simple $10 fix.

None the less, the system is all back together and running fine. The bluetooth works, the aux works, the nav works and I'm happy again.

It took over 3 trips to the dealer and at least 10 days in the shop to get the switching box finally installed!

Now I can get on to other upgrades...

Inexpensive Alternative

Hey guys,

I stumbled on this while looking into an ipod installation for my other car

http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=771&i=142FMMOD01&tp=1287

it's a Direct FM modulator that converts audio signals (from ipod , sat, etc) on a specific channel, and then HARD wires it to the antenna connection.

The idea is that you oull out your radio, take the antenna out and put this thing in the middle. You can then run your aux cables (rca, 3.5MM etc) to the box, and switch it on or off.

Best part is its' 30$ and a DIY.

Maybe not what your looking for people, but it will work

The FM modulators blow. Even the hardwired ones. It still has to use the FM tuner, so you're limited to whatever fidelity the tuner itself has, then you still have to deal with extraneous noise on that same FM channel. DIY is a plus, but it's not a valid substitute for a line-level or headphone-level aux input.

Bought an '08 GT with Nav/DVD. My wife really wanted Sirius; the salesman informed us that the Aux input would absolutely not work; we went ahead anyway. They were apologetic about the cost ($750) which was high because of the need to install a "Switchbox" at the time of the install. Even so, they still insisted that the Aux input would not work. Suffice it to say that the Nav, Sirius, DVD AND the Aux input all work perfectly! Very nice dealership, but they don't know too much about certain aspects of the product they sell, but I'll take the end result!(breakn)
