The Exhaust Sound Thread

like I said bad audio equipment. I also had a video up of my saturn vue on youtube and it also made it sound like a civic. I dunno why... but that had flowmaster 40s on it and sound more like my GAGT.

mazdaspeed axleback (stock car, no other mods)

Ok here's a couple questions for you: I have the OBX header, SLS catless midpipe and Racing Beat catback and I have two problems (or rather, two complaints).

First, the exhaust drone is too loud for my tastes when cruising on the highway at 70 mph or more. I read in another thread that adding a cat back into the midpipe could help quiet the exhaust down a little bit. Can anyone confirm anything about that? (I have already dynamatted the hell out of my trunk to try to reduce exhaust noise.)

And secondly, my engine does not seem to run as smooth when I'm just barely on the throttle at low speed or when getting back on the throttle after shifting. It bucks as if the clutch was let out with the rpms too low. Could this be from too little backpressure from the larger diameter piping? The stock piping is 2.25 right? My midpipe is 2.5 and the catback is 2.375. Could this also be fixed by adding a cat back into the midpipe if more backpressure is what I need?

I appreciate any comments/suggestions!

all you really need is a resonator to quiet down the noise.

as for the lack of power i have no clue. i decided against modding this car since low end is pretty much lost for barely no power at all. maybe you should try a MP3 ecu upgrade

yea i plan on getting the mp3 ecu soon. but the racing beat catback has a resonator- do i need another one in the midpipe?

Get a high flow cat. I pretty much have the same setup as you but I have a cat. This is what my interior sounds like:

Wow! That is a huge difference! I will definitely be getting a catted midpipe ASAP. Thanks for your help! And I also want a flashed ecu. Do you have one in stock that I can call dibs on?

here are some before nad after videos with stock header first with 2.5 header back,
then... reactive header with huge hole in it.. ( o2 sensor not plugged)
then..... reactive header with hole fixed.
all with tanabe super medalion racing exhaust
before..

just to get a bit of clarification (and i know this is a n00bish question)
but the mazdaspeed axleback comes straight out of the MSP, right?

Hey... quick question... the exhausts on a sedan and protege5 are the same except the 4 inch of the tip?

Was thinking about changing my catalytic converter seen as the joints are rusted and was wondering if the sedan one is the same as the p5 one.

And is this the catback or just the muffler:

Nice... did you change anything else on your stock exhaust system? Headers?

And also, are the catalytic converters (the last one) the same on the sedans and p5's?

i wouldnt know about the cat but my car is completely stock. no mods whatsoever. ive thought about getting a dynamax resonator to add a little more tone but im scared a ricey sound might come out instead (im former honda owner lol)

anyone have an answer for me?
also, will an axleback from an MSP fit directly into a P5, or will i have to cut it?
