The engine just dropped out of my car!

That's friggin ridiculous. I'm a technical person so checking on s*** like this isn't a major issue, but the fact that I have to make sure my car's gonna be intact on a regular basis when it's brand new is really going to piss me off. I hope mazda gets their s*** together on this and the other issues with this car before I get mine.

that sucks man. are all these cases only on MS3?
I dont recall hearing about it on the regular mz3. Thats pretty scary.
you should definitely get a loaner.

Yup! On the way to Krav Maga, I went through a bumpy intersection and heard and felt a grinding. I parked and looked at the engine - the driver's side was sunk down at least 3 or 4 inches and the whole thing shifted forward. Mazda Roadside Assistance got a AAA truck out there, but the dealers are all closed so it had to go to the AAA guy's shop.

I have no idea how long this will take, but I'm glad the car's under warranty. I start a new job on next Tuesday though and I have no idea how I'll be getting to work.

I hope it gets resolved quickly. That sucks for sure. Keep us updated.
Who's gonna be taking pictures of their car when it breaks down on the highway to prove to people on a web site it happened? Him wanting to get his car back fixed WAY outweighs his caring if we believe him or not. Good luck man

My sister's Rav-4 made an odd thump noise once while she was driving through a parking lot. After the first noise, it continued to make a quieter thump, thump, thump as she drove like a flat tire. She got out, checked the tires, they were fine, so she drove home and took it to the shop the next day. Her mechanic called her into the garage just a few minutes later, and pointed to her engine:
"here's where your engine should be" he said.
"ok" said my sister.
He lowered his jack, her engine dropped 6-8 inches or so.
"Here's where your engine was when you brought it in to me"
"oh." said my sister.

Her motor mounts had all let go, and the thump thump thump was her crushed front axles flat-spotted against the bottom of the engine! :0

Wow...that engine compartment photo looked almost EXACTLY like what my engine looked like.

I broke a tranny mount or a motor mount? I couldn't see anything broken actually, but it was about 8:30 and very dark.

Sure as hell did. I can't believe Nutari was questioning this after all the threads with pix on Mazda 3 Forums. This has happened to at least 4-5 MS3's so far with another 1-2 catching the loose tranny bolt b/f it fell out and tightening it up. The later production models appear to have been loctited before delivery, either at the factory or later.

There are some threads on street unit where a dealer tech says they've seen this and it's all due to abuse. From your posts (and most of the others elsewhere), I say that is bigtime BS. Of course Mazda's even paying for the one case of very clear abuse (alleged redline clutch drop), so they at least know it's not just abuse. So far the repairs have been effective without further issues, but check the threads out for yourself so you know what your in for.

Good Luck!

Wow, this is scary. I think I'll go and tell my Speed dealer about it and have them check their cars for it. Hopefully locktite solves the issue. Maybe another engine mount as well.

I've heard horrible things about Star Mazda, so I had it towed to Alhambra Mazda. The reviews there are SLIGHTLY less horrible.

There doesn't appear to be a good dealer in the area.

Update:

I had them bring it to Alhambra Mazda. I talked to Dale on the phone and he was really helpful. He assured me I'd get a free rental car until it was fixed. Now I gotta get my girlfriend to get me to the dealership.

Your right...This is going to scare me from getting my MS3...They better do something about those bolts for 2008 or have a recall on the 2007

The dealers are going to use anything as an excuse to get away from this one, like if you had any mods to improve your hps in any sort...These bolts should withstand more pressure even if you had any mods done to the car

i would just tighten up the bolt myself or better yet back it out a tad add some wicking grade loc tite and then tighten it down... no more worries... good luck with the fix man.

I broke my passenger side mount but nothing fell, I picked the car up yesterday and leaving the dealership I hear a banging noise and noticed now when downshifting or going in reverse I hear a noise that sounds like something moving around like... the motor. I take it back tommorow morning.

It's not going to dissuade me from my purchase, although it may have me put it off a couple months. It's easy enough to fix. This is pretty much the reason I'm on this forum. I want to know what I could have to deal with.

sounds like the msp! bad ass motor mounts, I say you try to have mazda install some SU or AWR ones, so you never have that problem again!

Good call! Alhambra Mazda is 100x's better than Star Mazda in Glendale. I went to Star once, actually felt dirty when I left. ha

That's about it for the area because Sierra Mazda isn't an authorized Mazdaspeed dealership.
