The Culprit Of The Clunk!

or for $ 10 you can get 500 people...nice for a online petition with less work

Think of all the questions and I'll create a new website with web forms and a database. This data can then be presented back to Mazda NA and Canada.

Will do. I'm swamped at work right now, so I won't have time until this afternoon, or worse case scenario, after work this evening. But I'm on it.

I can host it and build it for free. As many questions, in whatever format and keep the data for as long as we need it. I am busy too and tomorrow I am at a GM plant (and risk upsetting the UAW guys with a bright orange Japanese car in their parking lot!).

Grimace-I don't know if we want poly bushings...wouldn't they squeak WORSE?

Come to think of it, my friend mentioned something about carbon injected poly not squeaking or something....

SOMEONE GET THOSE ENDLINKS TO TEST THEM! Someone who knows what they're doing hehe.

Here's what he told me about... "Energy Suspension black Graphite-Impregnated polyurethane suspension bushings"
and he gave me this URL:
http://www.suspension.com/

And told me to check out energy suspension.

All I know is I just got my car back from the dealer yesterday and the clunks are gone (for now) and the suspension is tighter than it ever was! I was amazed. Too bad we got 4 inches of snow this morning. I wanted to test it out. Oh well, in a couple of weeks there's an autoX. Maybe it will help me then. :)

Ok, let me know what you guys think of this list of questions, and if you think there is anything I can add/delete. I want to keep it as scientific as possible, something that could be entered into a database and graphs come out if need be (corporate types understand graphs... :D )

When did you first notice the clunk? What was the odometer reading (estimate if you don't know the exact number)? Please specify miles or kilometers.

What time of year was this? What are the weather conditions generally during this time of year (wet, dry, hot, cold, mild, etc.) where you live?

Did the clunk persist? If so, after the clunking began, was it independent of the weather conditions, or does it only do it under certain circumstances (please specify). Does any one condition (weather or otherwise) induce the clunking noise regardless of all other variables?

Was any work performed on the car as a result of the clunk? What was changed (bushings, endlinks, etc.)?

Has the sound returned? How soon after the repair was done did it return? If you have had repair work done more than once to fix this problem, please answer the next question.

If you have had the car repaired as a result of the clunk more than once, please list below how many times you have got it fixed, and if possible, list the date and/or odometer reading at each repair. Use this section to describe any unorthodox methods you or the mechanic used and solve this problem (teflon tape, lubricant, etc.) that weren't found on the car as it left the factory.

Once andr3w does up his web thingy, we'll make a sticky thread about this initiative. Hopefully we get a ton of meaningful responses and when (if) Newf decides to send his car to the guys in Toronto, we can show them our database at the same time.
At the same time, even though its already been done, perhaps we could copy and paste various threads about the bushing problem and print them out in a reader-friendly format.

Edit - andr3w - Please add this question: What type of vehicle are you driving (MP3 or Mazdaspeed Protege)?

you know, since this bushing/ clunk noise is such a big problem to everyone, I'll gladly start taking applications to trade my 2002 clunk-free sedan for your MSP or MP3.:D

here are pictures of the endlinks. first one is broken. second is drivers side, not broken.
