The All-New 2017 Mazda CX-5 Units Have Arrived in U.S. Ports!

just got off the phone from a very reliable source at a Mazda dealership in NY,
Wantagh Mazda in Long Island will be getting in the 2017 CX-5 either today or tomorrow,
so like others have questioned, not sure how the east coast like NY and NJ are getting them so soon, but they are....
Yeah, I can understand SoCal dealers are getting 2017 CX-5's earlier, but why also east coast? May be there's non-stop express train from west coast to east coast?!

As far as I know Mazda's port of entry is at Long Beach, LA. Going through the Panama Canal is an expensive proposition. Using rail from west coast to east coast is cheaper and faster nowadays as discussed earlier. BTW, where did you find that old "Mazda Line" picture? :)

I have seen the incoming ports for Mazda being Vancouver B.C., Tacoma WA, and Port Huemene CA.

The picture was a google find. I thought was fitting for the occasion... :)

Just received a call from a dealership outside of Tacoma, WA. A few 2017's arrived on the lot today and will be ready for test driving tomorrow.

There are trains that are basically non stop. They run for 10 hours, stop wherever they are. Do a crew change (drivers are swapped with a livery service which is the type of company I worked at) and continue straight on without swapping or dropping cargo at train yards. This is a very dumbed down version of it. Not many train companies operate throughout the entire country. AOK (Arizona - Oklahoma Rail) used to have a partnership with Conrail. AOK would stop in a a Conrail yard, swap engines only, and finish the trip to Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland. Essentially swapping rail cars.

Can't wait to see how much quieter the interior is at 75 MPH.

About to pass 100,000 miles on my '14 and the wind noise is awful on Interstates. Other than that, it has been perfect for what I need.
 
The 16.5 is pretty quiet. Quieter then a CR-V apparently. 😋

I'm pretty sure that the reviews that praise how much quieter the 2017 is to first gen CX-5 are comparing it to earlier models. From just about everything I've read, Mazda has improved the "quietness" in each successive year, sometimes by a little, sometimes by a lot. The 2016 is quieter than the 2015, etc. The 2016.5 may be quieter still - at least I don't find my 2016.5 to be all that noisy, even at highway speeds. It's not a "quiet" or smooth-riding luxury car, but I'm not sure anyone buying a cheap CUV should be expecting that anyway.
 
Surely someone on here has some sort of sound testing meter to get a more accurate answer than "improved quietness"? I may see what I can find for testing as I will have my '14 and the '17 at the same time for bit until I sell the '14. I could test over same stretch of road with cruise set. Also could test at different highway speeds and if I can test drive a '16.5 on I will post that as well.
I'm hoping the 100 extra lbs in the '17 all went to sound deadening.
 
Quietness was certainly added in .5. I'd like to drive a 15 to....Dare I say it...See what this noise is all about. ;)

Eh, I'm more interested in what your EARS say than a sound meter. Other thing, of course, a new car will be (should be!) all tight-fitting and quieter than one with some years and mileage on it.
 
I'm talking about testing a '17 against a brand new '16.5 from the same dealership, since the '16.5 is already so much quieter than my '14.
I admit my '14 would be slightly louder even if no improvements had been made, but I am hoping the difference is very noticeable (and measureable) with all the improvements.

Back when I lived in Puyallup, my neighbor across the street drove the Mazdas off the ships at the Port of Tacoma - then the primary port of entry. I bought a '91 B-2600i RWD with auto trans. Kept that vehicle until 2014.
 
Just FYI, while driving south on I-5 today from Sacramento to Kettleman City I saw two trucks loaded up with nothing but bright and shiny 2017 CX-5s heading north!
 
Royal Mazda in SF just got two 2017's, one blue lower spec one, and a white GT/Premium with parchment interior. I gave the white one a good look-over after work today. The interior is amazing. Easily on par with the better VWs and better than any Japanese, Korean or domestic non-luxury marque I've seen to date. Materials are excellent, switchgear is solid, seats are great. The lower spec one looked like the wheels were way too small, but the GT is perfect. Has an athletic, strong presence but still a sense of lightness to it.

It really seems like their shot at going a class up was a success. Can't wait to drive it.
Seeing people are finding 2017 CX-5's in SoCal、NorCal and east coast, I contacted my Mazda dealer and still the same word - most likely the second week of April! Really anxious to see it and test drive it in person! :)

It looks like Mazda was serious about gunning for entry level Lexus/Audi/BMWs. In terms of quietness we're going to find out from actual reviews. In terms of power in city driving, that diesel option should provide ample torque to get the car moving. Mazda still has a long ways to go (dealership experience, paints, ect.) but is on the right path.

They also need a more powerful engine option that can compete in the segment. The 2.5T engine with at least 250 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque should be adequate. The engine to beat here is BMW's turbocharged inline 4 that gets a nice mix of power/acceleration and fuel economy.

To be honest 200-220HP/TQ would make the CX-5 competitive vs that group while severely undercutting them. A non-turbo skyactiv2 engine could probably meet the 200 spec with no radical changes to the current tranny used. A 2.0T could easily get to 220HP, again with the current tranny.

When I heard they are bringing the 2.2 Diesel with 310 lb-ft of torque to the states I thought wow the CX-5 is going to be a legit contender for that mid 30k segment. BMW's and Audi's options skyrockets its price. The Lexus NX starts at 35k. MPGs should be higher as well.
