The $1000 Audio Challenge!!!!!

The point of the thread is to put together a system that anyone can buy.
Also you may not want to discuss accomidations online. Saying that from personal experience though I made a big ass fuss.

I bet I could do pretty well in this hehe.
Feel free to post a system built from your offerings.

Feel free to send the moderators a free sample of it too :)

I will try to come up with something. I paid more than $1000 for mine, so it doesn't really fit in here. But I know for $1000 many great systems can be had.

And free samples for the moderators LOL.

Here's mine:

HU: Pioneer DEH-P4900IB - $159.99 (crutchfield)
- Free shipping + free kit/harnesses
- 4V Pre-Outs
Amp: Eclipse XA4000 - $329.99 (costco.com)
- Free shipping
- Rear channels bridged to sub
Front speakers: Polk DB6500 - $149.99 (crutchfield)
- Free shipping
Rear speakers: Stock, run off of HU
Sub: Eclipse SW6000 - $89.99 (costco.com)
- Free shipping
RCA's, Power Wire, Speaker wire: $49.49 (KnuKonceptz)
- 4-Channel Complete install kit
Total: $780

I'm not sure if costco is an authorized dealer for Eclipse, but they do have that crazy lifetime return policy.

Use the remaining $220 to cover wood for adapters for front speakers and sealed enclosure for subwoofer, and for sound deadening.

You can get an eclipse sub at cosco?
I bet they pay their bill, unlike CC

Oh how the mighty have fallen

Yeah it seems like they have a lot of Eclipse's stuff on their website, none of the HU's though. The lifetime return policy is awesome though. I think I might have to take advantage of that if any of my Eclipse amps/subs blow out hehe.

What do you mean by CC not paying their bill? I haven't heard anything about that, but I would love to know. I know our Eclipse inventory has been greatly reduced in stores, and we can't get the XA series amps anymore.

CC has had "rumored" reports of not being able to pay various vendors from time to time.
Nothing really new as they continue to really struggle.

My favorite was when we got word that the truckers on the way to CC's main warehouse were called and told to turn back to MITEK as CC had to cancel the order since they had no money to pay for anything up front and they were well past there credit terms.

This was before the first massive layoffs.

Its not just them though, the entire industry is half way to boned!

Yikes. It sure seems like it, especially with all the OEM's coming out with better systems and all the new difficulties with integrating/adding aftermarket equipment into new cars. Ok but anyways, lets get this back on topic.

Here's a setup from the company that pays my bills, Circuit City:

HU: Eclipse CD3100 - $219.99 (on sale)
Front Speakers: Polk DB5250 - $99.99 (I know there are 2 sets in stock at our San Francisco store hehe)
Rear speakers: Stock
Amp: Kicker 06ZX350.4 - $269.99 (on sale)
- Rear channels bridged to sub
Sub: Eclipse SW4200 - $99.99
RCA's: Metra V10417 - $74.99
Power kit: Metra AMP850BL - $79.99
Dash Kit + Car-side harness + : $40

Total: 884.94 + CA tax (8.25%) = $957.94

The other $42 is to be used for wood for the sealed subwoofer enclosure and adapters for the front speakers.

WOW.

I like how this thread was raised from the grave, as it is always good to see what you can get for $1000 or less in the audio world.

I've been working on a few sub-grand systems for a while now, and I'm confident I've got a good setup for those who are happy with their stock head unit (like MS3 / 3 members.)

So, here goes.

MTX Re-EQ processor (for low frequency restoration and Line-out Conversion) $99
RE Audio RE6.5Comp - 6.5" Component set $224 (authorized vendor via woofersetc.com)
US Amps XT800.4 - 4ch high end amp $259 (Auth.Vend. via woofers)
RE Audio 12" subwoofer $79 (Auth.Vend. via woofers)
Knukonceptz amp install kit $26.49 (Authorized vendors of themselves!...this kit includes 4 gauge power/ground, fuse, one set of RCA's to the amp)
Knukonceptz speaker wire, Karma 16 gauge $35.99
RAAMaudio sound dampening $118.96 for a roll of RAAMmat.
RAAMaudio ensolite dampening foam, $35.88 for 3 yards of Ensolite

Total is $878.32
The RE audio and US amp gear is shipped for free,
Knukonceptz shipping ~$10
RAAMAudio shipping ~$20

Leaves about $100 for wood, vinyl, carpet, etc. EASILY DONE!

This Is My Set Up!

1- HEAD UNIT KDC-MP438U $130.98*
2- SPEAKERS:
  1. KFC-X172 $130.98*
  2. KFC-X692 $149.99*

3- SUBS- 2 KICKER CVR 12" IN A PORTED BOX $149.99* (EA)
4- AMP- MTX 600XD $215.00*
5- CAPACITOR AND WIRING $100.00**

*nextag.com
**walmart

THIS LIST IS A LITTLE OVER $1000 BUT IF YOU TAKE YOUR TIME AND DO SOME RESEARCH YOU WILL BE ABLE TO FIND THIS SYSTEM ALOT CHEAPER.

I ONLY SPEND FROM $750 TO $800

how bout for a mazda protege 5 2003 hatchback cause im looking for a massive sytem for that willing to go maybe 1500$

What's "Massive"????

LOUD I assume....

Anyway here's a design -

HU - Pioneer AVIC-F900BT ($609 on sale - http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=20188)

This will run your entire system, has Navigation, DVD playback, Ipod Integration and built-in Bluetooth. It also has MSN Direct for Live Traffic Information and Points of Interest information.

This leaves about $900 for the rest, so here goes -

Kicker ZX700.5 - http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=19489 ($329 on sale)

JBL GTO 8607C 5x7 2 way Components (Front Stage) - $139

Direct bolt-in no adapters needed

JBL GTO 8628 6x8 2 way speakers (same as 5x7) - $56

The rest will be spent on subwoofers and wiring

(4) Rockford Fosgate P18S8 subwoofers 8ohm

You said MASSIVE, you need output. The sub-channel on that amp easily kicks out 400+watts at 2ohm. 4 of these drivers wired together in parallel will produce a 2.1 ohm load to the amp. Plus (4) 8" drivers is more cone area than (2) 15" subwoofers. 100w is plenty to drive each 8" hard in the right box.

That about $200 in subs and leaves $176 for the rest of the stuff you need.

If you look around the web, you should be able to design a square port box that will put out at least 130db and be around 3ft total, maybe less.

If you step down to the F700BT you loose the DVD drive and MSN Traffic and your limited to MP4 video via USB, SD Card or Ipod. But you'll save over $150.

It would sound great and bump hard for a bunch of 8's, trust me....

What in the world are you running your front stage with, the HU? With that mono amp you'll be lucky to hear any lyrics. I don't know about you but I like a balanced sound, which means if the sub bass is loud, so is the rest of the sound.

I never said you couldn't have a balance sound, there is such thing as a gain control and level control - (2thumbs)

But I do understand what's going on out there after a recent trip to BB....

Have fun whatever you do.
