The $1000 Audio Challenge!!!!!

Its actually pretty good s***...up where im at theres a local dealer, he started gettin it in I was a little skeptical about it thinking it was an audiobahn nock off, I had a vw jetta and he had been helpin me with alot of s*** I ran his name at the shows, so he told me ahh take that 10 right there and put it in you car tell me what you think, well I hooked it up ran a 600 watt audiobahn amp to it and let me tell you it slammed ... and I mean hit hard, no one could believe it was only 1, 10'', good stuff and relativily cheap.. I later bought 2 12'' ones and I think I paid 175 a sub for the comp. ones, I dont no how there reg. one are I only had there compatition series subs

If you go to a store that is the type to have stacks apon stacks of half assed brands and perhaps one decent one...you'll find audiopipe as the accessory company.

Half assed brands ... hey anytime you want to take your high end Alpine or Jl, kicker, and run it against my Audiopipe set up lets do it...so anytime a new company opens up they are half assed? So you think they are going to come out and be known as the top of the line, everyone has to prove thereself

So go ahead pay an extra 100 or 200 a sub for the "High end product"

I will stick with my half assed s***, and let the compations talk...then everyone can just suck on my left nut after I win ;)

Are you proposing a sound-off? Where are you located? I'm up for the challenge.

Car audio has a small community. If a quality brand makes its presence then it doesn't take long for people to catch on. The same applies to a good brand producing bad equipment. Take a look at Lanzar or Soundstream. They used to be HUGE brands in car audio and now they are practically bargain basement. Rockford Fosgate has gone through their ups and downs too. Brands come and go in this industry but the ones who hang around are the ones that invest money in R&D, support, and making kick ass equipment on the leading edge of technology. Just so we are clear, I am speaking about brands like Alpine and JL Audio.

Yea I understand they are made with quality, Im not saying they are not I am just saying, Audiopipe is NOT by any means half assed, and sure if you want to sound off I will, Im not claiming I will blow you out of the water, Im not claiming audiopipe is the best out there, either I am just saying that I will hang with your higher priced well known brand

1st. I never said audiopipe was half assed. Read my post.
2nd. I thought you were using there accessories only, as you mentioned using 2 SPL subwoofers.
3rd. If you originaly looked down on audiopipe thinking they were an audiobahn knock off, then there is a problem as audiobahn is complete s***. If my store picked it up, I would quit.

A sub that is $100-$200 more expensive is a better sub, period. Rarely is there a product that is more expensive becuase of the name of it. Thats a bulls*** comment at best. Even if its a name brand, it is still competing with others so JL has to compete with alpine, has to compete with pioneer, has to compete with rockford...ect. So the only way to lower the price is to lower the cost to build or lower the profit sold at. Considering the line of people it takes to get a product into a store, I can gaurentee you that the profits have not been touched.

There are some exceptions. JL will charge a bit more then average for their subs as they can. Its a very small amount probably 5%. Alpine charges more for their head units but this is at the dealers cost and not passed to consumers as Alpine sets the cost at which we sell at too.

If you would like to compare you car to mine this summer I am more then willing to accomidate you. However if your components are near the level of the rest of the eqiupment, I can gaurentee you that you are in for nasty loss. You will definitly have louder bass but I will have far better quailty and my car will actualy sound musical.
My system consist of a stock mazda 6 head unit, JL audio 300/4 amp, Polk SR6500 components and a single polk 10" sub.

Sound can be made cheap a thousand different ways and almost non of them are actualy an improvement. It is also VERY unlikely that audiopipe is actualy engineering anything. They are probably much like an eD and just ording from catalogs and hiring someone to glue it together. There are actualy VERY few companies that can totaly design/build a component set, subwoofer, or amplifier. The rest just order parts and labor from them.

Umm last audiopipe stuff I've seen has been available through all of the halfassed distributers alongside such spectacular brands as Pyle, etc. I'm not exactly sure what this "showdown" would ensue but I too am up for this if you're in the Northwest I'm all about it, Not that I want to try to compete I simply just wish to educate if you're willing to honestly put a subjective ear to it.

If you're simply looking for louder, it wouldn't suprise me if you'd "out-hit" all of us, but I garantee you there's nuances in music that you never knew existed until you hear it ona carefully setup system. Thatsaid, if you wanna have an spl showdown, I'll just grab the 15 in a 38hz tuned ported box we made for my buddy. Not that I know it's measureably huge huge for numbers (haven't really metered it) but it'll make ALOT of noise...

l2eedy, you are definately out of your league here man. Believe it or not the guys you've been getting fiesty with have likely forgotten more about Quality 12v audio than you will ever know. Thatsaid, we're all about helping you learn, you've just got to be willing.

I'm going to resurect this thread again with some great offers from Crutchfield, an authorized internet retailer for everything they sell. Folks, if you have exactly $1000 to spend and are looking for a well rounded system with great SQ, plenty of power, and decent bass, this is what you should do. There's a little bit of brand loyalty in this recommendation but the prices can't be beat unless you forfeit your warranty by buying stuff on eBay or something.

Summary: Start with a JVC CD player with decent SQ, MP3/WMA playback, changer, satelite-radio, or AUX-IN control (for future upgrade), two sets of pre-outs and a low-pass filter for subwoofer control. Nothing on crutchfield's site comes close for options at this price. I'd prefer a clarion unit but one in this price range doesn't offer MP3/WMA playback and the other only has one set of pre-outs and no changer/sat control or AUX-IN.

Grab a 4 channel Streetwires interconnect to send that signal to two MTX amplifiers (select a shorter/longer cable depending on where you install). One amp is rated 2x70w for powering a set of Infinity Reference plug-and-play 6x8" components. The other amp is rated 1x420w for powering a single 10" or 12" Infinity Perfect DVC subwoofer in a Q-Logic sealed enclosure (Add $30 for 12" and select appropriate box).

Also acounted for is a 2-amplifier wiring kit and speaker wire. All instructions, wiring harnesses and installation accessories are included by Crutchfield free of charge. In short, this is everything you need for a fully powered 2.1 system in your car (with some optional rear-fill from factory rear speakers).

JVC KD-G320 CD/MP3 Receiver $129.99
StreetWires ZN2504 Zero Noise 2 16.4-ft. 4 Channel Patch Cable $39.99
MTX Thunder421D 210W x 1 Car Amp $199.99
MTX Thunder282 70W x 2 Car Amp $99.99
Infinity Reference 6810cs 6"x8" 2-way Component System $199.99
Infinity Perfect 10.1d 10" Dual 4-ohm Component Subwoofer $149.99
Q-Logic QLH-.6510SBE Black Single 10" Hatch/Trunk Box $64.99

ok right now im looking into something like this, i want to change my front speakers, get a sub and amp all of em. probably run an amp for the sub and one for the speakers. i want to keep the stock headunit though and was wondering if there was a way i could make it so the stockk headunit could get a direct feed for an ipod? thanks agian for the help guys.

Line out for the stock unit: Use a LOC such as the ones available at www.davidnavone.com.

Auxilary input for the stock unit: Use the AUXMOD (search the forum for AUXMOD for info and other options)

Please start a new thread if you have further questions.

It works but only becuase I didn not put in a clause against used equipment.

B-Stock FTW!

Factory head unit, modded to accept RCA plugs, and the Frequency Response restored by swapping out the crappy limiting capacitors - ~$25 for all parts
Blaupunkt Velocity VA2200 Sub amp ~ $169
Blaupunkt Velocity VA4100 4 ch amp ~ $179

Your choice of 6.5" component set, tons available in the $150 range, or DIY set like Dayton RS180 woofer for $32.70 (each) and SEAS alloy tweeter ($25 each) from www.timbreaudioonline.com You still have about $30 left over to make crossovers from parts at www.partsexpress.com

DIYMA 12" Subwoofer ~$140

KnuKonceptz wiring, for speakers, rca, and power ~ $75

$738.00 for all that, so now you can spend quite a bit on sound dampener or your choice, wood for a box (or fiberglass, my suggested route), carpet, etc. You can also ditch the idea of modding your factory radio (which works!) and buy an Alpine, Eclipse, or whatever for the head unit.

Total cost? $ Well under $1000.00

Did I mention if you install it right, you'd have an SQ system worthy enough to compete? Nah...probably forgot that.

What ever happened to the rule that all items have to come from Authorized vendors? Man...I leave for a while and come back to find broken rules...:)

parts express is authorized...not sure about some of those other sites mentioned but unless it is crutchfield or cardomain it is probably not authorized for all brands they sell.

Hrmmm this looks like fun I'll have to get all my accommodation (50-75% off retail) price sheets together and see what I can come up with. I'll be using stuff from Eclipse, Polk Audio, Kicker, MTX, Monster Cable, and Metra.
