Test pipe smoke

Hey everybody. Got a quick question. I have my 2nd resonator and muffler replaced with a straight pipe. Everything was good. The sound was nice and then I got a test pipe and it sounded even better. But when I sit at a light too long or at idle it starts to smoke really bad. The color of the smoke is white. Idk if this is normal or not and was wondering if there's maybe something wrong with the car. Also if there's a way to get rid of it.

Search smoking turbo and that should direct you to one of the many posts about this problem. No, there's no cure as of now.
 
Search threads for the infamous turbo smoke aka bad turbo seals. Is yours an 07 or early 08?

wait how is this a turbo issue? it only started when i put in the test pipe to replace the second cat...
 
and yeah its an early 08. i got it in february... my mods are listed in my sig.. would the dealer replace the turbo? and im also passed my 36000 mile mark so no warranty =/

P.S im a newb with turbo cars so idk what to do..
 
If you are past your warranty mark then you are SOL /:. But you could always take it in and ask. The problem are the turbo seals. Basically oil leaks in where it shouldn't which causes all the smoke. Only fix is to replace the bad turbo. If you keep your eyes open you can snag some used stock turbos on forums for very cheap.

Temporary "band-aid" fix is to use thicker oil which may not squeeze past the seals. 10W-40 for instance. The reason the test pipe caused the smoke is because that cat you removed was covering up all that smoke. So your car has a problem that was just hidden by the stock cats.

You ain't gonna get no free turbo from mazda with exhaust mods, that's for sure. The reason you smoke MAY be the cat covering it up and it may be the new free-flowing exhaust causing a drop in pressure over the crankcase pressure value, leading to oil being pushed out the exhaust pipe.

Try the thick oil and the PtP PCV pill fix http://www.pt-performance.com/ and see if that clears it up for you. It works for me. Do not let the car continue to smoke, as you will only destroy the seals and nothing save a new or rebuilt turbo will fix it.
 
I have the MS CAI and a cattless mid pipe. I only get a puff of white smoke on cold start in cold weather for like about 10 seconds. This to me, is normal, considering that most cars that are stock do that. If your smoke looks like the one in the vid., you've got issues lol.
 
Or the slight puff could be steam as the water from the cat evaporates as the exhaust heats up? Funny smell could be from the cat before it's hot? Depends on a) how much smoke and b) what the smoke looks like.

I've noticed a lot more coming from my exhaust now the weathers colder, and my reasoning is it's similar to being able to see your breath on a cold day but not so much on a normal day, so same with my exhaust.

I doub't the change in pressure from a catback / midpipe would cause smoking. A downpipe maybe. . . but he doesn't have a downpipe. Its not like the stock catback is that small either. Its 2.5 inches which is solid.

what I meant was deletion of the 2nd cat may have led to the noticing of smoke. The 2nd cat may have been burning the majority of that up, once it's gone, voila, smoke.
 
thanks a lot guys.. i took off the mid pipe and am taking it to the dealer tomorrow then im buying a catch can and the pcv fix thingy lol
