Test drove a WRX (08)

I really have no idea what to do right now. I really like both cars...

I really don't plan on modding the cars at all, save a few little things:

On the WRX, all I would do would be springs (offered by Subaru), sway bars, some chassis bracing, and maybe catback exhaust and
intake through Subaru's SPT part line (if/once they make an intake for the new WRX that has gains...).

On the MS3, all I would do would be Cobb rear sway bar, Cobb intake, and chassis bracing. Maybe engine mount inserts...

That is it on the mods. I have had too many problems with dealerships over the years and just want to enjoy a nice car instead of always messing with it/worrying about it.

You sound about like me. I just wanna get the Cobb SRI, the stage 2 suspension kit, and probably the CP-E rubber engine mount. If an ECU solution comes out that does nothing more than remove the boost limit in first and second and give me full control over the throttle plate, I'll do that too, and when I need tires I'm going to 225's on stock rims.

New WRX kinda don't do it for me. I drove 'em around, and it felt sloppy, slow and uninspiring compared to my '04 WRX. The bugeyes to the '07 style were pretty nice, but the new ones... Just blah.

^Wow really. The 08's have so much more pull than the old 02-05 2.0L engines....I agree that suspension wise they feel sloppy.

Test drove a few WRXs before buying my speed..... talk about turbo lag!! The 2.0 took forever to make power, and the 2.5 was still bad, but had a lot more torque down low which made it easier to drive.

I prefer the speed as well!!!

Mine kind of has spoiled me. =) I made a custom map for mine a while back, and flashed it with my Tactrix cable. It makes it much more fun to drive.

But it wasn't the response/speed that bothered me on the 2.5L/'08's, but the total lack of tactile driver feedback. Felt like everything I was doing was filtered through a sive, and adjusted as the ECU saw fit. =/ I don't like that feeling.

I don't think that is what I said. (hand)

I like the looks of the WRX STI better than the MS3 (my opinion only and no one else has to agree). The 2008 STI has flared fenders, and different body lines than the standard Impreza or WRX. Both of which look too plain and generic to me. If the MS3 didn't exist, I could see myself getting a new WRX, because it is a lot of car for @25K. The MS3 does exists and it is a lot MORE car than the WRX.

Just to be clear there are only 2 cars on my short list. The RX-8 (if the dealer will knock 8K off the sticker) and the MS3.

U forgot the lancer ralliart....but hey, u probably have the MS3 already. SO have plenty of fun !!!

OP alot of people feel the way you do about the 08+ wrx...i am just glad that i got an 07 at this point....supossedly subaru is changing something for the 2009-2010 launch.

The sti is much much better looking than the normal wrx...as it should be for the price tag.

After having my MS3 for over a month, everytime I drive my wife's 07 WRX, it feels a little sluggish. I had an 02 WRX but never test drove a 08 WRX. I did test drive an 08 STI about a week before getting the MS3. I loved the STI all around but not for that price. The MS3 seems to have just about as much useable power from the butt dyno (for my driving needs) but I was out the door almost 15K cheaper with the MS3. It is hands down the better value IMO, and I do not regret my decision at all.

put a tbe and a tune on it and the wrx she has will suprise you (beer)

subie are good car, you cant really go wrong....
Id personally go for Legacy than WRX.

+1
