Tein Basic Damper vs. Tein SS Damper

well...there's 16 settings. What exactly do they adjust?

they adjust the rebound and compression (ie, how easy the strut moves up and down). on these units they are adjusted together.

The Tein SS and Basic have the exact same spring rate springs on them. The benefit of the SS is you have a wider range of replacement springs to choose from in the event that you wish to do some tuning. The SS will also allow you to properly match your damping with the new springs.

The Basics and the SS will ride the same in terms of comfort and performance when the SS is set to the default spec in the instructions (8).

Tein Basics and Tein SS at the mid setting will drive the same.
