Switching to synthetic oil

our oil pans can hold an extra 1/2 quart of oil. which is what i do, id rather have that extra protection, especially if i go around turns to fast, dont wanna lose all the oil outta the engine.

High mileage

dammit that's hi mpg.
I've tried hi tire pressure, grounding the electronics, fancy spark plugs, moved to synth blend oil, remove roof rack, etc. etc.

car gets no more than 30mpg EVER.

well it might if i set the cruise at 55 but that's just silly.
I am talking about highway cruising at 70-75 miles per hour......the only other thing i forgot is that the tranny has redline synthetic......it is so smooth even at 20 degrees.....I averaged 34.8 on the last trip....32 pounds air in the tires

you're going to make me cry in frustration
(pissed)
i do have Redline in the trans as well.
maybe a cai and exhaust will help.
i am at near sea-level, maybe 300 or 400 feet. are you at higher altitude? that can make a big difference.

Just wanted to poke in here and say Royal Purple isn't all it's cracked up to be. You pay a lot more, and in the end, it hasn't proven itself to be able to stand up to even the common synth oil products. if you want an off-the-shelf oil that's genuinely superior, Amsoil is swell, and costs about the same as Royal Purple.

but for all intents and purposes, you don't even really need synthetic oil, so if you do decide to switch, Mobil 1 should suit you just fine.

My gas mileage is pretty dismal.....21mpg and that isn;t driving it hard either (but that is mainly city).

So how long should I go before my next oil change? I just put synthetic in it (Mobil 1 5W30).

I would normally call for a 4K-to-5K mile interval but considering the very low gas mileage, I might limit the interval to 3K miles.

I really drive my car hard. When I'm not sitting in stop and go traffic around the Capitol Beltway, I'm running to redline at city speeds. I use Mobil 1 and change at 3K-to-4K miles. I have been tracking my MPG for 16 months and have averaged 26.3MPG. 21MPG indicates a problem, IMO. Make sure you done all scheduled maintenance and take the car to a trusted mechanic.
