swirl scratches

Recently noticed that my P5 has alot of swirl scratchs all over the paint job. You know the little tiny ones you can only see in certain lights. Although its not really that big of a deal, the car is brandnew and i havent done anything to it that might of been even remotely abrasive.

I picked the car up in the evening when i bought it and i feel that the dealer prep wash job was the cause. I was wondering what you guys think about it, and what should i do if anything?

Well, it's normal. Just washing the car gives it swirls (their not scratches). The only thing you can do is carefully maintain your washing mit's and make sure no dirt gets stuck in the fibers and dont rub too hard. MAke sure the car is real wet to loosen dirt residues.

What color is your P5? On darker colors, the swirls are more apparent.

I'll tell you that I used Zyml wax and while I didn't get all the swirls out, they are very hard to notice. Hope this helps!

danhenry, be carefull with scratch X. It may be smooth but it still removes some of the clear. If they are swirls cause by contact rubbing (ie sun roof deflector) then yeah, if not, I suggest trying with Quick Detailer and a Clay bar. Sometimes, just a good paint cleaner and polish will work.

By the way, invest in Quick Detailer, Clay bar and 3 Steps Waxing products. Can't go wrong. I'm personnally a McGuiar fan but others may be just as good.

You say the car came like that? How much time have you owned it? Where do u live?

Im pretty sure that the swirls were done when the dealer washed it up and stuff. I picked it up at night, and failed to notice it.

Could you please explain some of those products you listed. "Quick Detailer, Clay bar and 3 Steps Waxing " Is this a kit or 3 diffferent products. Is the clay bar what i think it is?

thanks for replying

I bought the clay magic clay bar and used it on my hood. I could definately tell it was removing all the little dirt and stuff off the hood but when you're done using it, do you rewash the car to get all the lubricant off the car? I tried to use a soft cloth like the box said but all it seemed to do was move it around. any ideas?

The clay bar is just a bar of clay that sells with a product to smothen the dirt that have hardened on the car.

The Quick Detailer is the product that helps smoothen it up. Normally, they give you just a little bottle of it with the clay bar so just buy another bottle.

The 3 step waxing is 3 different bottles. A paint cleaner, a polish and a wax.

What I do is do the quick detailer with the clay bar first, then the paint cleaner, then the polish and then the wax (takes almost 2 days if yopu take your time. After that, the car looks even better then when you bought it. It does such a good job that it evens removes the apparence of light scratches.

Oh, and always use lint free cloth.

So total, that makes 5 bottle and apporx. 50$ US. (70 CND)

Go get a bottle Duel Action Cleaner Polish , then swirl remover then Gold class .
Get Meguiars

I use the Polish to cut the car. Then I apply Meg's swirl remover gold class.
Unreal shine.....

This is the best way to REMOVE swirls, not just cover them up! A clay bar will only remove the bonded contaminants from the surface and will do nothing for swirls and fine scratches. The polish in the Meguiar's 3 step (I assume we are talking about the deep crystal) will only COVER UP swirls. Your car will look great but the swirls will come back after a few washes. The dacp followed by the #9 then gold class or #26 is the perfect recipe for removing swirls!

About the 3M imperial hand glaze, this is a great product but it should be used after the swirls are removed. It is a glaze and therefore has no abrassives to remove swirls. This is a great product if your looking for the "wetlook".

Someone asked about removing the clay residue, most people use a quick detailer as a lubricant for the clay, I think this is a waste of time and money. After you wash your car, leave it wet, then mix another bucket of soap and water this time go heavy on the soap. Use the soap and water mixture as the lubricant, after you clay simply rewash and dry and your ready for the next step.
