Supe up 2.0L Auto M3

The 2.0 is the same 2.0. The 2.0 uses the 2.3 aftermarket intakes and headers. my only question is if the mounting alows the clearance of the header that "Will" bolt up to exhaust port side of block. Unless he wants to trade in a loose then do what you can

The engine placement is probably similar, but most engines have unique bolt patterns on both sides. Mind you, I have never seen the bay of either motor nor do I have specs. However, the fs motor is a good example. The 2.0 is just a stroked version of the 1.8 and they require different headers.

Unique bolt patterns on both side? What are you talking about?

I'm still lost without a picture of a 2.0L Mazda3 engine bay.

Last I checked the 3i used the same fs-de that the 3rd gen pro's used only with VVT and a better ecu tune....

the 2.3L's are backwards from this meaning the exhaust manifold is in the back of the engine bay.

Unless they have made an all new 2.0L engine where the exhaust is in the rear then there is no way the 2.3L header will fit on a 2.0L motor (fs-de). I looked at the .pdf listed above and it doesn't show anything 100% clearly but I did see an engine block that had the exhaust listed as "front of car"....that would be how it is on the fs-de protege engines...

someone HAS to have a pic of a 2.0L 3i engine bay....

Yes the 2.0L is a new design. It is basicly the same as the 2.3L just a few differences. I have the Service Highlights Manual.

yep 1.8 2.0 and 2.3 are the new breed unless the protege engine was 148 hp? 3.0 is basicly a taurus engine with extencive mods for vvt. He has manual then yeah...he's got the 2.0 pictures I couldn't pull up and was kinda hinting too earlier. just a q on the FS-DE is that front side dohc exittingexhaust?

yes on the protege FS-de the exhaust exits in the front of the motor. I can't imagine creating an all new 2.0L motor when they've had one that works so well for almost 10 years and all they'd have to do is add VVT....and also, the fs-de makes 130bhp...adding VVT and re-tuning the ECU will EASILY give 148bhp.

you're gonna have to get that picture to me soon or I'm going to my mazda dealer and get some pics...if they'll let me remove all of that bad plastic cover.

I wouldn't say the th FS-de worked so well compared to these new engines. The duratec brand is far better then what the old protege's used. And this engine is used in the Mazda3, Mazda6 and the Ford Focus....maybe some others too.

you're arguing semantics when I'm trying to point out that Mazda has used the fs- series engine for almost 10 years....it obviously worked well enough.

Just fyi, the 3.0L duratec engine in the 6S is a great engine but worst in it's class when compared to others so what is your point??

3.0 untuned runs pig fawkin rick...cp-e maz customizer fixed that issue. The V6 on stock michelins handles worse than our 2.3 cause of the added 100 lbs over the front wheels. a fwd v6 is a bad idea IMHO! rwd would have made this car even better and for them to make the speed 6 100:0 and 50:50 whenever the car felt it needed was the worst idea ever...I'll leave that to another post in 6 section ;) 2.0 is 148 without vvt....since we found someone with book you can ask if 2.0 has counter rotaing balance shafts as well...I beleve he's refering to the 3 6 and focus as in the Duratec 2.3 block...

is it possible to supe up a 2.0L Automatic M3??
You could put a turbo on a Weed-Whacker, I would have to say yes, but it will be a long and irritating road...

It took over 6 monthsto design and build this contraption...

Another FYI the Protege has not been best in it class, but the Mazda3 will be. Bottom line the new duratec brand engines 2.0L & 2.3L are steps ahead of the Fs-series. They are also mod friendly compared to the FS.

Besides what are you talking about now? I already stated that they are not the same engines! Sounds like you are taking offense because I said the new 2.0L engine is better...which it is.
Might wanna do some more research next time.

And the 2.0L does not have balance shafts.

I'm waiting for someone/anyone to show me a picture of the new 2.0L engine...no'one has done this yet.

My only issue is that I find it REAL hard to believe that mazda is going add a 2.0L engine to it's new and scrap a design thats worked well for a decade. Now as far as I know the 2.0L in the 3i isn't a ztec or pzev engine so so I'm wanting to look at one to see exactly what mazda put in these cars.

p.s. Also with the 3 being a brand new model I can't fathom mazda trying to create a whole new engine for a whole new car when they HAVE to keep cost at a bare minimum. It doesn't make sense. If someone can just provide me with a picture of the engine bay of a 2.0L 3i without all of that plastic covering then we can solve this real quick.....I'm not saying I'm right just saying that it doesn't make sense.

p.s. and I own both a prtege and a 3 so I could really care less which is "best in class". I enjoy both equally. My 3 for is great for sunday drives and my p5 is my track car. Best of both worlds.

yes building a brand new engine from the ground=expencive but stealing alot of ford parts=not so expencive. pulling apart the engine will reveal alot of FoMoCo parts. hell the cartridge and o-rings are ford parts with a mazda sticker slapped over it ;) I hope I get a recent 2.3 cause the cartridge setup is $12 before oil.

so arwe you saying for a 100% fact that the 2.0L engine used in the 3i is a Zetec motor? You're saying it's a duratec derivative and that would be the zetec. Is anyone with a 3i able to check their catalyst sticker and tell us what the engine code is??? This would fix everything...

that link doesn't show any of the engine codes or designations for the 2.0L.

I got onto mazdausa and looked up the specs on the 2.0L and found that it has 10.1:1 compression as opposed to the 9.1:1 of the fs-de. They also refered to it as the "FDL". I'm not sure if thats the new engine code or designation for the engine with higher compression.

This would be SO much easier if someone with a 3i would just post a few pics of their engine bay and their catalyst sticker....

The 2.0L is a brand new engine used in the Ford Focus, Mazda3 and Mazda6. It is not the Fs-series, it is not the zetec. It is a newly designed duratec engine. It makes perfect sense to dump old technology and go with newer and better, especially since it is used in many cars thoughout the world. The "new" 2.0L and the 2.3L share most or the same parts. In which most of the aftermart parts will work for both Mazda3's as they do with both Ford Focus. And no that does not mean the Focus exhaust and intake will fit the Mazda3.
I feel like I posted this already!

And if you don't care what car is best of class don't bring it up. Do some research and quite wanting people to do it for you.

like my balls kid.

If it's a new motor thats cool. I just wanted to see a picture of it.

p.s. i love your quoted power numbers when you've not dyno'd yet. Those seat-o-the-pants dyno's are 100% accurate!

Not only do you need to do your own research but learn how to read, those are my stock dyno numbers..KID So yes I have dyno'd my car and plan to again very soon!
Just stating that the AEM has not been dyno'd yet.

I swear if I could bottle up common sense I'd be rich!
