oK EVERYONE, my old as hell, jl audio sub is dead. I need a new sub or 2. Im doing a full custom fiberglass enclosure in the same spot as the msp sub box.

I dont know if I wanna go with 1 12inch or 2 10inchers. Give your suggestions.

I listen to just about all types of music, and looking to save space in the trunk. Thats about it. :D

Hell go with 2 10's! Really with speakers you should look for how big the magnet is. The bigger the better! I know that some people would joke on my old setup because they saw it was from Lighting Audio, but it wasn't the bolt crap that they sell in stores. It was the Strike geared towards competition and plus they are owned by Rockford Fosgate. The companies share info like mad crazy. Anyways before my daughter came along, I had 4 10's with a 400 watt amp and a 1/2 farad capacity. It was pretty sweet setup.
If you want to go for a more name brand type of speaker well really just look around for the one with the bigger magnet, the bigger handling, and make sure of what it is made of.

Yo! Street Racer...you stealin' my idea? :D

Read "MSP replacement plan..." and you'll see what I'm using. (maybe you can answer my questions in there too!) You'll probably not want to follow that, so that if we do meet at a show, we don't look exactly alike 'cept for the outside! Anywho...I recommend 2 10" subs...probably the eD's like I'm getting would be great because they love small sealed enclosures...And for the price, how can you go wrong??? Or get JLs again. Eclipses are subbosedly good...though craig says to avoid the bass amps. Whatever you choose just use a good SQ amp to keep it clean.

I'm going to mount my amps kinda like in the MSP, except right side up and in their own hydraulic dampened lowering trays. Yeah...hell of a first fiber project to pick, but it should be loads of fun! Then it'll be bondo'd properly and painted spicy orange. This is a little ways off, since I'm buying it piece by piece, and it's my first install...so if there's anything in my idea that works for you go ahead and use it!

=O) It will be a fiber piece w/ hydraulic pistons like on a tailgate, only smaller. The pivot point is in the back and these pistons are mounted behind the fiberglass in front so when you release the tray it just lowers to present both amps on angle.

Sorry for making it sound cooler than it really is... :(

back on topic, boost...i dunno, but let me know what to buy when you find out.lmao

hrrrmmm, I seriously thought of doing the lightning audio s***, just to prove that you dont need expensive equipment to get great sound. :D ( i used to install for like 5 years many moons ago.) anyways, I think Im gonna go 4 10s with a small enclsure requirement. and start pieceing out from there.

Craig, any suggestions ? :D

Craig doesn't love us anymore...doesn't post too often in his own section lately. Think he's been busy...That's why I'm still looking for answers in that other thread.

For a wide variety of music 2 10's would be my path.

Yeah how the hell are you going to save space with 4 10s?
Also keep in mind damn near every company is nowing putting out smaller box stats then you shoudl actualy use. Even the JL subs I sill do .75 cubes per 10".
I like 3 10's maybe JL 10W6AEs, Awsome sub for only $200/apeice these days.

Blah blah blah, dont listen to anyone else but me =) I would recommend going with AudioBahn 10's or 12's Nice look, Hits clean and loud. I.E. My friend has two alum12x in his car and they beat almost everything besides (2 12" strokers).

149.6 out of 2 -12s with 1800W? I would think if Audiobahn was so good, he should be well into the upper 150s with that setup. Hell, Got Wake? got almost 148 with just 1 10" Brahma and less watts (1100, I think). Audiobahn is widely know for its looks first and performance last. Check out many audio forums and you will see that Audiobahn is about the looks. Hell, even I like the way their subs look. But would I buy them, no! If they were to sponsor me, then I would use their stuff, but that is about the only way I would buy all from the same company.

Of Course there are better subs out there. Dollar for Dollar with similar setups I would think audiobahn is one of the best choice. Hes not even running 0 Gauge wire as well.. So theres a lot more room. FYI he was running the audio 1,600 watt amp at the time. He just upgraded to the 1,800 watt. Thanks

Wire size has nothing to do with it unless the amp can not get all the current it needs at which point it may even damage itself. Proper wiring is a neccesity not an upgrade.

Audiobahn has largly inflated specs that are out right BS.

Audiobahn - 12" FlameQ - 279.99$ at crutchfield
Elemental Designs - e12a.22 - 295.00$ from eD
JL Audio - 12" 12w6v2 - 459.99$ from Tweeter
Ecluipse - 12" SW8122DVC - 399.99$ from tweeter

Just comparing what's generally available at common audio stores. Maybe the Audiobahn is in a different class than the rest...but that eD is their highest end model, and it's gotten some damn good reviews. Obviously I can't speak personally until I get my eD, but it seems like a damn good speaker for the price. Maybe somebody else that's heard one can back that up.

well the 4 10's were a sick ass install i had on mind, but 3 10's with 2 angled out and one facing down would look prettty sick. Im doin the basket out look, i think, and that would be pretty sick setup. My whole f/g trunk will be removeable, but will also look sick installed.

I refuse to explain how I am going to do it, for security reasons, but it will be sick. :D

Ya I'm sure either subs you decide to go with you will be happy. I tend to go towards ebay for buying audio equipment. I haven't had a problem.

ive heard some systems using MMATS and AutoTek.. i did an AutoTek install for my cousin's 4runner using a single MX-1522 15" in a .75" HDF ported box and an SS-750.1 to push the sub down at 1 ohm. it really hits--the guys at the place i bought it from totally put down Audiobahn saying they're nothing compared to these bad boys. seriously, i would have to agree with them. before i went to them i was planning to do a 2x kicker compvr 10" setup--don't get me wrong i'm a big fan of rockford fosgate & audiobahn, and i have a bazooka RS104DV tube with a 10" woofer in my 240SX.

i don't have an SPL reading for my cousin's autotek setup yet since this new shop's still waiting for theirs to get in. they gave me a pretty good deal.. the sub, amp, 4ga. wiring kit, harness, box, and jvc sx990 for 700 flat. i went home and compared prices on ebay, and the closest i got was like 728 plus shipping. retail prices on their stuff are pretty crazy.

if i could make a suggestion, i'd try to sample 'em out before getting a JL or Audiobahn setup. you'd be pretty amazed yourself!
