Sub Box Carpeting

At what point in enclosure production do you put the carpeting on?

The prebuilt ones i've seen look like the carpet was put on the individual boards before they were attached to eachother. If this isn't how you do it though, let me know how to put carpet over a box that is already completely constructed if that is possible.

I would look at got wake's how to on this, but unfortunately he doesn't beleive in carpetting boxes, so i'm out of luck. :D

Putting the carpet on is a pain in the arse no matter how you do it. There are alot of different ways that people do it. The main thing is to use a spray adhesive (3M super 77) to attach the carpet to the box. Dont use glue or soemthing. I jsut try to wrap the box up putting most of the seams on the bottom or the back. It takes practice. You may just have to give it a try. Someone may have a good idea for ya. but I cant think of any good way to explain it.

you wrap the box, but on a couple of the pieces use a table saw or router to cut a crevice into which you can tuck the excess carpet. Makes it look really clean. I'll take pics of mine if you want...lemme know.

i don't believe in making boxes look pretty when it doesn't effect the sound:D lol, but the truth is i'm just lazy:p and i don't want to spend the money to make it look nice when the box will be thrown away in a few months anyways:rolleyes:

well i didn't mean any offense to you, truthfully i'm very impressed with the box you made on your how-to, and i don't mean to demean your skills at all. I just don't plan on throwing this box away, and i want it to look nice so i can show off to my friends. Sound is important, but i don't want my friends to think i did a halfass job on the box b/c it doesn't look nice, even though it would sound exactly the same.

We strech almost all of our boxes. No seams...I had never seen it done at anyother shop I worked at. It is awsome, and I have done it myself on a few boxes and it isn't very hard. The carpet cannot be backed and one side of the box (back or bottom) will not be carpeted.

I put some cheap vinal material I found at a fabrics store on mine and it turned out pretty nice. Looks like its wraped in black leather. Actually it's the same material that the stock shift boot on our cars is made of, but a little thicker. It cost me like $2, and went on easy with the 3M spray adhesive mentioned above. Looks better than fiberboard with glue and screws all over it and the total cost was about $10 and 1 hr of my time....

Good luck:cool:

This sounds like exactly what i want to do, and having one side not covered is no problem.

I understand that the carpet cannot have any backing, but can i buy a suitable type of carpet at say Home Depot, or Lowe's?
They sell this stuff at partsexpress.com that would be perfect

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/show...23&St3=52716517&DS_ID=3&Product_ID=5834&DID=7

but if i can get the same basic thing at a local hardware store, i'd rather not order more stuff online.

If that is the only kind of carpet that is stretchy and has no backing, then i guess i could order it online, but like i said if they sell it at lowe's it'd be way easier to buy there.

Exactly how big of a box were u stretching the carpet over, cuz mine is going to be about 36 inches wide, and that seems like a big stretch, but thats just me.

BTW, hey servo, you said u'd hook me up with some pictures of your box with the routed crevices where you tuck the carpet to make it look cleaner. You still owe me those pics punk!

j/k, but i would like to see it, cuz i am confused as how to make the edges of the carpet look good.

I stretched a sealed box for 4 12s...our box builer does it on most every box he builds. I wish I could describe how we do it but its almost impossible to put into words...every to show someone.

flip-drift, for the link in your sig, put the URL tags around it, so people can just click it to go to the site;) in front of the address put [url] and then after it put [/url] or reply to a messege and click the "http://" tab at the top, which will allow you to enter in custom text, like "click for my audio site", then put in the web site address. your audio site. it'll look like that;) then copy it and paste it into your sig:D

and when are you getting the BP1200.1 in stock? it says coming soon, and that is a helluva deal:D

hehe...pics of box taken. Will post this evening after I get a chance to stop running around like a chicken w/ my head cut off.

Pics of the box and how the carpet works. One shows multiple seams, the other shows a close-up.
