Sub Box Carpeting

how deep did you make the cuts? did you use adheasive also? looks pretty easy to do, i might even carpet a box sometime;)

the cuts are about the width of the table saw blade (obviously you do them before you slap the box together!) and aboutas deep as they are wide. Don't want to take off too much, seen? I used adhesive to slap the carpet down onto the piece and then tuck the excess into the ridge. Then you take a utility knife, razor etc. to trim it in the ridge and finish tucking it with a flat head screwdriver or something like that.

thanks for the pictures servo. might have to try that one time. there is always more than one way to do things.

you make the cuts for the seams in flat parts of the wood? or at the joints or what?

The cuts go right at the edge of the side pieces(since they are interior). You can do it with a router table or a router edge jig as well, I just did it with a table saw because we had one available! :)

I forgot to mention, this technique was taught to me by none other than 1sty. It's pretty much how he does it on the boxes he builds...very neat and tidy. It'll be even easier when I rebuild my box without the angled face (and ported of course...).

It's also good to add one cut to the bottom or back piece so you can cut the excess from stretching the carpet over the other 4 faces.

Mine is slightly ghetto but it gets the job done nicely. You can't see it from the outside.

how do you mean it's ghetto, pimp? it looks good to me.

and servo, did you use copper tubing for the grill/guard on your box? you should send more pics of that.

just look in my sig. Wait for the sound line to roll up to the last thing. It shows my trunk install and how the copper looks. It was cold when we bent it, though, and it wound up pinching. It isn't too bad...I do like how it ended up looking, but I'll have a new box in the spring, so it really doesn't matter! :)
