Sub & Amp Recommendations ???

jam, did you have to do any modifications to the box to fit the JL? Or is it simply a plug and play? I worry about that big magnet on the 8w3v3--it doesn't rub against the box?

If not, looks like a nice setup. Think I'll pull the trigger on it.

Nope no modifications done to the box, we stuffed that sucker in there LOL.
If you want you could always get a ring to raise the sub a little.

Nice looking install with the amp and all. Quick question, I noticed so far in two photo's that the top of the stealthbox isn't quite flush with the rest of the interior. It seams like there's an inch gap at the top. How bad is it? Or are my eyes playing tricks on me?

nah its your eyes .. haha
ummmmm yea, I need to trim the jack area a little more to make it fit flush, I've been a little lazy though, so I haven't gotten there yet.

Got the GT, didn't use a LOC.
That's all I know about the install, had someone locally do it for and as you can by the install of the amp it was nicely done by him.

Can this be done with the sport HU? Or do you have to replace the head unit. I know we dont get a stock sub but I dont remember if the Sport HU has a sub out.

Thanks

It can be done, but I'm pretty sure youll need a line output coverter, there are how-to's somewhere. Check the regular Mazda3 section, its got to be somewhere, you could eeven post and ask.

Though I would say, jam it in to the hilt and get a neato head unit. I had a great JVC HU that did HD tuning natively, and I really miss it now. And my amps. and my JLs and 12" woofah.. Can't wait to build again...

Go all out. lol =] i had this set up for about 2 or 3 months. the only thing i could not stand is not having any trunk space. but to me it sounded amazing. the car tumps super hard since its a wagon.
What you guys think??

jesus -- is that 2 15s???? looks nice, but too much bass & not enough room 4 me. if u dont have passengers too often and u dont mind keeping cargo in the back seats i say A+

i used 2 have 2 12" in a ported box in my 626, but i hada get rid of 1 of the subs b/c i needed my trunk back. im currently running 1 12" in the MS3 and imo its the perfect balance btwn sound and space -- since its a wagon it sounds mucher better than my old sedan....

yeah its 2 15s and they were being pushed by 2 punch 1500w amps. it sounded really nice, but i needed the trunk back as well. so i took them out and put a single 10 L7 solo baric with one of the amps. let me tell you i loved that thing. it wounded like i had 2 12s in the back and it was a lil 10. ill put it back in and take some pics cuz right now i dont have any bass. =/

I got 2 12" CompVR in a ported box, and these suckers pound. The subs themselves are nothing special ( I know because I used to be big in stereo compitition) but I have about 1000 rms running to each sub, and have a memphis line driver with a 5 farad capacitor. Just left over parts from my compitition days. I don't care that I am pushing so much power to these subs, everything is tuned and sounds great. If I blow one of these subs, they are only 70bucks new off the internet now. By far, this setup is probably the best bang for buck.

s*** dude, 1000RMS to each? Ha, I had two L7's hooked up to a Rockford 1500bd@2ohms in a Durango. That s*** was loud, 150.3db was my highest reading. I can't imagine how loud that setup is in a smaller hatch. sheesh :)

L7's are no joke, back in my competition days, I was pounding some rockford Power HX2's, same 1000 rms running to each, but I had a 15 farad Pheinox Gold Capacator, that thing was a monster, I won quiet a few competitions with that. What were the L7's tuned to?

I don't remember exactly, but I think that 150db reading was around 28htz, it was pretty low. Everything was hooked up to an Optima Yellowtop, and I had 2 1-farad caps. Not to mention a stock 130amp alternator. I had another 75x4-channel amp for the highs. Never had any issues for like 4 years with that setup. solid. I miss it, lol

lol, my ears dont miss it. I went from tuning for DB to SQ now. It might not be as loud, but it does sound good :)

I'm definitely going to switch to SQ now, my s*** was too loud. lol. but after I'm finished with performance mods, my dream setup is with some Premium or Q-Line (if I feel like splurging) MB Quart components. They sound sooo amazing! and 1 10in L7 in a vented box, with everything hooked into one of those RF 3sixty.2's for some serious EQ tweaking. that will be done, eventually....
