Sub & Amp (pics on page2)

Hey whats up everyone, I did a quick search and came up with nothing ...
I recently purchased a custom fiberglass sub box which fit in the jack compartment in the left side of the trunk area. It inculdes a built in terminal which fits an 8" sub. Just looking for a little boom boom to go with the zoom zoom.

My question to you all (audio pros) is what brand would you recommend for this set up.

Detailed size specs:

Volume: .65 cubs
Front Baffle: 1/4 inch
Fiberglass: 3/8 inch thick (6 layers)

Mounting Depth:
Depth is 4 5/16 inches or approximately 11cm.

Thanks

I am getting the same box and am researching subs. The mounting depth disqualifies many worthy subs. These will fit:

Dayton QT210-4. MB Quart RWE-202. Memphis 15-MC84. Diamond Audio D308D2. CDT Audio EF-80.

An Image Dynamics ID8v3 might fit if you remove the plastic case over the magnet. That's my go-to 8" sub. I've got one in the basement if you need me to double-check the mounting depth.

As far as power goes, you should be safe with 150-250w RMS. There are plenty of amps that fit that range.

Many many people reccomended this sub. But mounting depth is 4.75". How much is the mounting depth after removing the plastic case?? If its close, I don't mind using a spacer.

Elemental Designs 9Kv.2 will fit with probably a small spacer. It'll play well with anywhere between 200-300 watts. You can get it in a dual 2 or dual 4 ohm configuration so you can match it to the output of whatever amp you buy. They're $75 straight from the manufacturer and eD also makes spacer rings for $10 or you can make one yourself. Either way, you wouldn't be disappointed in the sound quality of this sub.

I have the 10" model and it sounds awesome.

here's a pic I borrowed from the group buy

sub suggestions

I did a lot of research on what sub fits. Fourthmeal was kind enough to analyze all the subs I was considering and he had a few more to the mix. He analyzed using a program called WINISD which models the subwoofers behaviour in a given enclosure.

The JBL GT804 is a good choice. Should be an exact fit (4 and 5/16" mounting depth).
The Image Dynamics ID8 is an excellent choice BUT its about 1/2" longer. Might fit by taking off the platic housing and using a spacer.
I read some negative things about the RE8, specifically that it was not very musical and did not blend well with many speakers.

Here is what Fourthmeal had to say:
The kicker VR and Comp standard aren't really too bad, but they have some issues to deal with. The cheap Comp likes the .5 cubic feet of space, but the more costly one doesn't at all. If you notice the ones with large humps, those are boomy subs in this sized box...no good! The ones that have a response deeper into the 20-40hz range will be your deep sounding, robust subs. Those are the RE and the JBL, with the Image Dynamics coming just behind them. When I measured them at 150WRMS, the Image Dynamics and CDT will play the loudest, and the difference between them and most of the other brands is a LOT. The Image sub is a serious contender, one of my personal favorites (but forgot they made an 8 that would work correctly!) The CDT will get loud, and play cleanly, but it won't hit very low, so I wouldn't do it here. The JBL will do fine, as will the RE Audio overall. Also, there's nothing wrong with the cheaper Kicker, it actually does great in this application. It won't play as low as the RE or JBL, but it isn't a bad sub at all.

The Diamond D3 is a great sub, but it is totally outclassed here. I think if I were in your exact shoes, I'd probably run either the JBL, or the RE audio. I personally love brands like RE, but JBL is great too. Your call on any of these though. The Image sub is flat out one of the best sound quality subs you'll hear, too.

I might go with this box as well (if they're still being made). Too bad a Soundsplinter RLi-8 won't fit. I noticed a bunch of 8's can work ported in this size of box and did some plotting, but found out that to get a flat response requires some huge port lengths that are beyond impractical. The "recommended" port tuning on the re 8 produced a disgusting hump around 45hz, talk about boomy. Then I came across this:

Plotted it against the RE 8, ED 9Kv2 and ID 8v3 in a 0.63 sealed box.

Yellow is the Dayton, Green is the ED, Blue is the ID and Orange is the RE. Seems like the Dayton is a bit happier in this size of box. It has less xmax but more sensitivity, could be great for sq. Would probably need a spacer like the ID though.

That's a mid-woofer, not a sub-woofer. With it's low power handling and limited xmax I doubt it would keep up with an actual sub. It can play midrange, but that doesn't apply to the back of a hatch. The danger of the parts express site is that you can't assume that every cheap speaker they sell will be good, they still sell alot of crap. http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/ is where I go to get test data and reviews of raw drivers, then I can get a rough idea of if that speaker is what I want.

ID8 vs Dayton?

What about the Image Dynamics ID8? Same mounting depth as the Dayton HF so both would need a spacer.
