Stupid Things You've Done Modifying/Maintaining Your Ride

I was adjusting the valves on my GSXR when I dropped the cam chain tensioner bolt INTO the block. Pulled and disassembled engine.

Best thread idea ever, especially since my car is coming to a close.

Honestly, I have tried as best as I can to forget the bad things. What I can remember.

1) Offset of wheels to big so needed to fender roll which resulted in an excellent look in the end (same as some one else whom posted above)

2) Installed the coilover sleeves on top of the strut body (right at the point the piston part comes out) and did not move the car (thankfully) before realizing it needed to slip down over that point and onto the big mounting plate below it.

3) Dropped a live wire off my battery inside the engine bay and enjoyed those few seconds

4) Stripped and sheered many bolts, resulting in hacking, drilling, new *custom* bolts from home depot - lol

5) Had a low tire pressure blow out after forgetting to pump the 20psi lost over night back into the tire before leaving for the day - while skipping school and having no money - needed to call AAA and my mom to borrow some money for new tires. Which later had to be taken off and mounted to the wheels I was waiting to get before the blow out. Holding out for wheels and tires while your current tires are going out fast is a bad idea, lol!

6) Overlays will get burnt by after market bulbs

7) After installing a new subwoofer the battery drained and after a day of checking everything out with the installation, come to find out the battery was a bad and would not recharge.

8) Painted interior pieces.

9) Installed SRI without looking at instructions... LOL "It's just pipes with a filter"

I can't really remember other mistakes. There are many interesting ones though. I guess I just fix them and forget them and move on to the next mod. Currently my catback is hitting my short shifter because of the new mid pipe I installed is not positioned correctly. Need new end links for rear strut bar.

trust me. Hours were spent trying to fish that out. The last thing I wanted to have done was tear down the motor.

I even tried dangling a piece of cheese outside the hole hoping to coax the bolt out. I would have tried the magnet on the string deal but had forgotten about the phenomenon of magnetism and how it could have been applied in my situation. Any future issues involving a bike I haven't had in 13 years will be deferred to you, oh master of nut and boltery.

I just cleaned my MAF, and I didn't tighten one of the clamps on the intake down, so as I pulled out of Dunkin donuts, the car just died. I still had my tools in the back, so it was an easy fix, but a stupid mistake. DOH!

1) i snapped the head off one of the spoiler bolts doin the DIY rattle fix (too much bass=annoying racket from spoiler lol)
that was fun trying to drill it out and retap it (broke the tap in the process because it was too small)
finally decided the hell with it and put it back on. havent had any leaking problems what-so-ever because i weather stripped the entire thing inside and out. at least it doesnt rattle anymore

2) while installing my SRI i tried pullin the resonator box without undoin the bolt hidden on the bottom

3) forgot to reconnect the 3rd brake light when i put the spoiler back on, so i had to take it off again.

4)i crashed my car

5) opened the hood with the windshield wipers up (i was washing the car and was cleaning the engine bay) theres a nice bit of paint missing from the back of my hood (no rust yet though)

stripped a thread on an AEM adjustable cam gear on my old civic...result was that the car completely died and lost power steering while on the highway(fortunately i muscled it over to the shoulder)...when everything got pulled apart it was a nice piece of destruction and a good ol' valve bender job...

stripped a few bolts, snapped a few bolt heads off, forgot to tighten some bolts which proceeded to fall off, forgot to reconnect a plug on top of the throttle body, didnt tighten down some fmic pipes too well, didnt tighten a fuel line tight enough (boy was that scary), forgot to tighten some splash guard bolts (which caused the said splash guard to scrape against the ground),

Broke a tee in my oil pressure sender which ended up causing me to pull the motor :)

Broke a couple studs, stripped this and that, etc.

Upon reading ^that post^, I now think we've done this thread before. I could be wrong.

i think thats about it for me

You forgot, you crashed j00 car

Bought rad hoses from PepBoys. Cheap pieces of crap. Hate Pepboys now.
Cracked the rear panel when trying to force my Rear STB through the hole I drilled.
Spilled half a qrt of redline when chnging trans oil, got all over wires and engine.
Left a 14mm socket somewhere on my car, probably fell off during the test drive.
Didnt seat one of my springs right and had to redo the install.
Left a pair of plyers in the engine bay, luckily they were there the next time I popped the hood.

18. When changing a burnt out fog light, and cursing Hercules who probably put on the main bolt, I managed to strip the screw head off. I didn't have a small enough screw extractor, so I tried drilling it out.

All I managed to do was create a metal "cylinder" with it. In the end I used a self tapping metal screw to secure the lens which worked out great in the end.

oh I forgot about one. When I installed my kartboy shifter bushings I didn't tighten down the nut that holds them in place with enough torque, so WHILE I was driving the nut flew off and I lost one of the shifter bushings. The shifter felt like it was full of poo. I didn't quite realize what exactly had happened until later that day when I looked under my car. The shifter linkage was holding on just by the bolt. Luckily I knew where the bushing had flown off, so I drove back to where I thought it would be and I found it! (Thankfully they're bright yellow.) Reinstalled it with another nut I found (I actually pulled off the little rubber resonator box thingy that's bolted to the frame of our car and used that nut...lol...ghetto I know...I haven't had that resonator box thing on my car for years).

I even made a thread about it....gawd I was such a n00b
