Stupid Things You've Done Modifying/Maintaining Your Ride

Oh....one other thing about the Integra suspension install. After 9 hours dealing with it and getting it all back together, we lowered the car and realized someone reversed the the springs. Front were on back and vice versa. Car was jacked high in the rear and dropped to about .5" clearance in the front. No lie though, we had 4 guys total and swapped the entire suspension in less than 30 minutes. This includes jacking up the car, removing wheels, taking out strut assemblies, taking off all the coils with a manual spring compressor, then putting them all back together again.

Oh...and it was 10 degrees outside, but lucky enough my friend had heat in the garage.

Thats funny

It really was a good laugh after everything that had happened. I should have mentioned we finished around 2am. Or maybe we laughed due to all the fumes.

I think I managed to completely re-install my headlights and front bumper, put both wheels and tires back on and lower the car only to realize I had forgotten to bolt the bottom of the headlights down. Had to tear the whole damn front end off again. I also forgot to re-connect the power window controls in both rear doors after removing and re-installing the door panels. Not to bad but annoying considering everything was put back together.

You do not have to pull the wheels or jack the car to pull the front bumper ;) Just a heads up!!

Rob

the front of the integra looks good as hell.lol i must admit

but that does suck the springs were put on backwards.lol i would have prob just destroyed a bunch of s***.lol then get back to work after the anger was dispersed about the room.lol

I know... now. At the time I just wanted to do everything the "right" way. I'll probably be at least jacking the car up this weekend when I paint my new headlights. I think I'd rather leave the wheels on (apartment complex parking lot).

On another note - I've left my fair share of wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, sparkplug gappers, etc. in the engine bay. I've found out that if it's in the little trays at the front, it won't fall out.

broke one of the mounting tabs taking off my front bumper to paint my headlights.

forgot to wipe down the inside of the headlight lens when i had it separated. when i turned the headlights on to check if i reinstalled everything correctly, they looked dusty. so i wiped my hand on the lens and realized that the dust was on the inside. blachhhgh. didn't look bad, but i knew it was there.

left a big ass screwdriver resting on the intake manifold and took my car for a test drive after installing a cai. when i got in and my wife asked what i did to the car, i showed her and the first thing she said pointing to the screwdriver was "uh, is that thing supposed to be there?" oops.

we should all just keep a bunch of tools and zipties and a 10mm socket in that little pocket then...it's like a built in tool kit for your engine bay! lol... *goes to put tools in that little pocket*

I always travel with a 10mm open end wrench and a small metric set (inc 10 MM socket!) It is almost the only tool you will ever need. Besides us turbo guys who have to carry around a 7/16 deep socket for the nice clamps!!
I have many more disaster i have done i just dont kno where to start!!
Rob

I pretty much keep an entire toolset + extra parts in the back. I think I have like 6-19mm open wrenches, torque wrench, 8-14mm socket set, bt adapter and bits (the changeable screwdriver thingy), multiple pressure gauges, a tire pump. For parts, I have like 20 extra ft of vacuum line, at least 1 extra qt of oil, an extra MAF, extra coolant. LOL, I'm a moving parts store...

^ Hahaha I keep a little tool box in my trunk with Zip-Ties,10mm wrench & Socket,7/16'',Flat head screw driver and two hose clamps and a flash light! LMAO!!!

Ok, on to stupid s*** I have done...

1)Started the car with one coil pack plugged in

2)Started the car with MAF unplugged

3) Car wouldn't start so,I pulled the alternator and starter and took them into auto-zone to have them tested only to find out their fine.Of course I did all this before checking the battery....

4)Changed my oil and wasted 4 quarts of Mobil one because I forgot to put the drain plug back in before filling...

There's a bunch of other s*** but, thats all I can remember right now.

Good times!(boom03)

haha that's a good one. did the oil just go all over the floor? or did you still have the drain pan down there still?

LOL A friend of mine walked up and asked me why all this oil was spilled under the car.....I said WTF?

(rofl2)

oh I just remembered one more small one:

killed the battery by listening to music for 4 hours while doing random work on the car after not driving it for a few weeks. The battery barely had any charge left in it and I guess playing loud music for 4 hours doesn't leave any juice to start the car. Had to have a friend drive me to Autozone and I bought a new battery (it was still the original battery after 4 years, so it was time for a new one anyway)

Forgot to plug the maf back in countless times.

Burned my hand right after installing the header.

Left the iat sensor out and on the strut tower and drove away.

Re-welded my exhaust up without checking for clearance for the muffler. That melted a nice section of bumper.

Threw out all of my stock stuff

I'm exactly the same way! Got a 30lb toolbag in the back plus extra parts and fluids.

1) stripped every nut possible, which has resulted in countless trips to specialty stores since US units are gay.
2) left maf, iat sensor, and battery unplugged
3) installed unichip, did not turn it on, and still swore my car was faster for a good 10 minutes.
4) had to re-connect an IC pipe 8 different times in 1 week before i cut my own coupler from straight pipe to do a real fix.
5) still havn't totally hooked up the vibrant exhaust. It's being held on by ONE nut that was grinded down. none of the others fit on...but no leaks :)
6) decided to take off the radiator hose for clearance into the turbo when installing pipes/fan... that was a terrible idea. BIG MESS resulting in serious lack of coolant.
7) i have at least 8 screws left over that are supposed to be holding my front end on... and i have no clue as to where they go. but it's on, right? (deadhorse

god i love this thread. this is giving me so much confidence; or at least just satisfying knowing that im not the only ****-up under the hood haha.
