Stupid Things You've Done Modifying/Maintaining Your Ride

Ok....I'll spill the beans here. This one has to be the dumbest thing I ever did to a car. Mind you I was on meds at the time, very young, and had no clue back then.

Drained oil in my car. Could not get oil filter off. Decided to drive 2 miles with no oil thinking I could make it to the gas station. Pulled into gas station and engine seized. It was done!

Altspace....you win (first) (rlaugh)

Damn...that's awesome

This wasn't even when working on the car, but I still felt pretty stupid!

Moved ye olde RX-7 across the street before a predicted snow storm, so it wouldn't get hit by the snowplows. After the snow, tried to drive the car, realized that when I moved it, I had started it, driven it 20 feet on a cold day, and shut it off. (Rotary owners know where this is going)

I'd flooded the engine, as will happen if you shut off the car while it's in it's cold-start cycle. While trying to un-flood it (by pulling the fuel injector and cranking the engine), I killed the damned battery!

Moral of the story, let the rotary warm up before you shut it off, or you may end up buying a battery! :(

(hand) as you would say "doh"

I do something stupid every time I touch my car. Today it wasn't my fault though, I would have thought that my UDP would have came ready for install right out of the box but it didn't, so I had to install it twice:(

Instead of unplugging the connector for the Air Meter in the Miata, I unscrewed it from the meter (a common mistake) and pulled out the actual electronic connectors... I had to get a ride an hour back to the nearest pull a part place and buy one there then drive an hour back.

Didn't plug in the lower O2 sensor in the P5 when we did my header, and was surprised that the CEL kept coming on.

Didn't bolt the seats in the Miata down properly (yeah....that was interesting lol)

In a 'huff' after driving like absolute s*** @ an event, swapping the tires back on the Miata, I just did everything real quick w/ an impact. A few days later, I heard a wierd "grinding" noise coming from the passenger's side front corner. Stopped and checked and found 1 lug nut missing, and 1 1/2 way off. Word from the wise (because of learning from mistakes) ALWAYS check lug nut torque w/ a torque wrench. An impact may or may not get it all the way on lol

And a whole bunch of other stuff that I can't remember or have blocked from my memory lol

I tried to tint my own windows twice. Once to learn to hate it, and another time just to be sure.

and when I put the header on my p5, I didn't get the new donut gasket, figured I could reuse the old one. I destroyed the old gasket trying to get it off. couldn't reinstall the old header, couldn't bolt up the new one, and no one in the state of Connecticut had the right part. I had to order one, and of course, they sent it to the wrong house. I had to wait 4 days for a new one to show up. I would have made faster progress by slamming my head into a wall.

for some odd reason after every detail job i do on my msp i ALWAYS forget to do behind the gas door..and water always seems to fallout of it. (spank)
