2002 Protege 5 5 door. Front and rear disc brakes.

If anyone is reading this tonight.. I was changing my front brake pads and had taken out the lower brake caliper bolt. Putting it back I over-torqued it stripping not the bolt but the thread in the brake mount support. This is the
outside metal enclosing that the caliper bolts into.

Is the dealer the only place to get this? Or can one get it when buying a caliper at an autopart store.

Very upset..car is stranded in my garage until I can get the part and tomorrow is Saturday.. I doubt the dealer will have it in stock for a 2002

Really dumb of me not to read the torque instructions in forum and manuals.
:(

Don't expect a parts place to have the part. A auto salvage yard may have one. Your dealer probably will have to order the part. It's not a part that normally needs replacing.

Good luck.

Most auto parts stores have rebuilt calipers in stock. Just buy a new caliper and use the mounting bracket until one of your calipers does go bad and then...voila! You already have the new caliper! Good luck.

local auto part store rules

Yes, that's what I did ... The dealer would not have the mounting bracket or caliper in until tuesday. Calling my local autopart where I got the brake pads
they have a caliper and bracket in a couple of hours. Used the caliper bracket of it and I was back in business (plus not in the dog house).

Not too expensive but definitely a lesson in know proper torque values.
