Street Prepared build

The ported and polished head/intake manifold is in. I just finished testing it out. i have a small pin hole in one of my coolant lines, but I'll fix that this week. She pulls much better above 4 grand. I'm expecting a little more since the ECU is still trying to figure out what the hell is going on. 1st gear is pretty much useless now. She'll spin at anything more than half throttle. I'm so glad to be done with that transplant...my back is killing me.

how long would it take ya to do mine? is it a one day job... off and on or longer? if its a quick weekend deal i might hit my fav NC mech up for a weekend

Swapping out the head and intake mani would only take a full day with two people. I did the whole thing by myself so it took me 2 days taking my time. The part that takes forever is porting and polishing everything. Your in luck though. I have a spare head and intake mani that I can port and polish, and remove the VTCS for you. Your car would see a lot more gains since it's FI. My ports are a little larger than what everyone else is running and I can port deeper into the head than what I did on mine since I'm not going by a rule book with yours. It will take me a few weeks to finish the port and polish whenever I get started on it. I'll let you know how it's going, but it will be a few weeks before I start.

well go ahead and do it in your spare time which i know is limited and ill be down in the warmer months to grab it from you... no rush on it. ive got a nice lil list im working on to get done right now as soon as its warm enough to work on the car.
one major thing is.... know any decent brands for my rear pads ? they are starting to squeal i think.
first the stereo, gauges, hood, fuel rail, fuel reglator, hoses, ss clutch and brake lines and now the intake mani

I run Hawk HP+. You can get them through tirerack.com. The are much better than the stock pads, but they create a lot more dust so you have to clean the wheels pretty regular. The Hawk HPS is a little bit more of a street pad and should be cleane, but I've never tried them so I don't know how they compare to stock...I'm sure they are better though.

You can buy EBC Green Stuff or Red Stuff pads for our cars now, provided you can find them in stock. I'm looking at replacing mine w/ the Red Stuff in the spring probably.

i got the HPS for all 4 wheels from tire rack.

i love 'em...they grab a little sooner and stronger than the stock pads, so it took a few days to get used to them on the street, but they're perfect for autoX. i'd recommend those for street/autoX use, as i've heard the HP+ are more suited for offroad use.

Is engine management allowed in SP? I was reading the rules and quote:

D. Alternate computer control modules may be used whenever an
equivalent change to the conventional system is allowed. For
example, alternate computer module control of ignition settings or
fuel injection is allowed. Direct turbocharger boost control by
alternate computer control is not, since there is no equivalent
mechanical allowance.

Is this how it should be interpretted

You mean, track use or actual off road use. Technically my car is libel to encounter both pretty frequently.

:)

"offroad" as in "not on the street." from what i've read, the HP+ and the EBC RedStuff are not as effective when cool, and therefore not really meant for street use.

as far as the computer question, i would imagine some sort of alteration is alllowed; in STS, you're allowed any engine management that fits in the stock ECU box; if it looks stock on the outside (which includes the wires), it's legal.

win by a inch win by a mile winning is winning. cheating is only wrong if you get caught. you dont think the other guys is trying to get an edge somehow?

i tihnk everyone has heard these before and they are true in a strict sense. doing it right and winning is a great feeling and the way it should be, but thats not how the world is. this is a world of sneaky pete bottles and just upping the boost you never know what the other guy is running so you have to be able to get the max out of whatever you have.

TOTALLY different kind of crowd Finn... I could see it being a problem if there was money involved, etc., but all we get is pride and a little dinky trophy....

Are you guys really experiencing that much of a problem with your rear brakes? I ask because your rear brakes barely do ANY work! I know most RX-7 guys, and most CRX guys(I used to autocross one of those, too), run stock rear brakes because there was no real benefit from an upgraded pad... Usually, they just end up with early lock up....

I started to lock up my rears toward the end of last season. I was getting really comfortable with the car and was braking harder and later than in the beginning of the year. I just put a set of stock pads on the rear and I have HP + fronts sitting in the garage waiting.

I really liked the HP +'s last season so I ordered another set. I never really had a problem with them warming up. They felt pretty consistent...but I'm sure as the rest of the car and my skill gets more dialed in I might be able to detect some differences.

I just got word that my oil filter relocation kit came in today. I'm going to cruise over to the garage and take some pics.

Hot s***, lemme know how it works, i might pick one up.

I'll have to get some hose and fittings later this week when I have some time. It's actually a lot nicer than what I thought it was going to be. It has the extra threaded ports that can be used to tie in an oil pressure sender for when my gauge surround comes back from Leadfoots pod install.

i ran the Hawk HPS on the fronts last year and stock pads in the rear and they worked really well. I'm thinking to try out the HP+ this year. I'm not concerned about the rear pads so i might just get some stock pads for the rears again.
