Strange Noise on my P5...Grinding?

Hello everyone - I have a video here I took of an odd noise my car is making. It does not make it very often, but a couple times it has made this noise when driving after start up. It usually makes the noise once, like in the video, and then does not do it again while I am driving about. I am not sure what the deal with it is.

Has anyone ever experienced this or maybe recommend things for me to check out? Not sure where to start with this one.

Here is a link to the video I took. Sorry for the length of the video. The noise is around 22 seconds or so.

Sounds like a fan or metal shielding vibrating against something.. hard to point it out exactly..

I'd get thecar up in the air and have a look ASAP. Check the head shield around the midpipe, just below the shifter. Lots of people eliminate this heat shield entirely as it really doesnt serve much of a purpose.

With it not being consistent it might be hard to diagnose. When the engine is cool, try to move the heat shield (assuming you still have yours). Can you tell where the noise is coming from (under hood, etc.)? Start out with the windows down so you can get a better sense where the sounds it coming from. I was thinking maybe caliper. I would also suggest parking, then put in neutral and allow the car to roll. If you can make the noise happen without the engine running, you can eliminate the engine.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will lift the car up after work and check the heat sheilds out. It did not .make the noise this morning...I also wonder if it might be the shield on the exhaust manifold

Edit: I did what pkane mentioned, and the noise seems to be coming from the left front wheel well. I shut the car off and rolled down a little incline and it made the noise, just not as intense being that I wasn't going very fast. I also noticed, as noticeable in the video, the noise does not happen when the car is in reverse. I am in the process of removing the wheel to see what I can figure out.

Well, I located the problem:

whatever that shield thing is called behind the rotor, was rubbing in one spot on the back of the rotor. Not sure how it started touching.

I also removed the heat shield that Maxx Mazda spoke up for good measure.

Thanks for the tips everyone! Problem solved (lol2)

My dust shield was doing the same thing. They are flimsy and rusted and you can easily bend them with your fingers.
Replacing them is quite involved and I'm not going to bother.

My thought is that your wheel bearings may be getting sloppy,... The shield only seemed to rub when you were turning.
I would lift that corner again and see if the wheel feels wobbly.

I think they get a little carried away with the tolerance (0.05 mm) but if you notice sloppiness, then they are in need of replacement.

You could replace the dust shield during the wheel bearing replacement if you think they need it.

Yeah I just bent it back with my hand...

It was actually so easy to fix that I felt like an idiot for making a post and video about it. Maybe it will help someone else at least.

I think what happened is when I was changing out the front end links, I bent the dust shield closer to the disk. There was only a small portion of the shield touching the disk, and I haven't had the problem come back since..
