Strange muffler noise

Hey all...
Just bought my new Mazda 3 but am wondering if a noise in the muffler when starting is normal.....I've never heard it on any other type of car....

ANy ideas? Is it normal?

Do you mean inside the muffler canister itself? Possible a manufacturing defect left a piece in there not spot welded. Or could just be the heat shield or other part of the exhaust that vibrates or is slightly contacting something. You might try peering under the car while someone else starts it to help pinpoint the location.

is it kind of an airy "whoop, whoop, whooop" sound... i think thats just air turbulence from the pipes

it sounds like a gurgle and sputter, like a hole in the muffler, but only at low low speed. Anyone encounter this?

Why not go to the dealer and see if other 3's do that on start up. It will let you know if it's normal for your car.

Hey Man,

Yea, I got the exact same gurgle only at start-up from a stop. I test drove 2 other Mazda 3s cars and they both had it too. Guess it is in the design.
