2003 MAZDASPEED PROTEGE
HEY GUYS I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE ELSE IS EXPERIENCING A PROBLEM I HAVE. i HAVE ABOUT 18,500 MILES ON MY MSP AND MY RIGHT FRONT TIRE WALL IS BALD AND THE MIDDLE IS STILL HAS LOTS OF RUBBER. ON MY BACK RIGHT TIRE ITS BALDER THEN MY LEFT TIRE ON THE BACK ALSO. BASICALLY THE BOTH RIGHT SIDE TIRES HAVE THE OUTSIDE WALLS BALDING FASTER THEN THE REST. DO YOU GUYS THINK THIS COULD BE A CAMBER PROBLEM? ANY HELP WOULD BE HELP FULL.THANKS

If they're getting bald on the outsides and not the inside that's an indicator that you need to put more air in the tire. Check the tire pressure and give it some more air if it needs it.

When a tire has too much air the center of the tread wears out quickest.
When a tire doesn't have enough air the outside of the tread wears out quickest.

Thanks, But I Did That And My Tire Pressure On All My Tires Are At 33lbs. Any Other Ideas?

My tires (right side tires) ,are bald on the edges of the tires. My car on has 8100 miles on it, i don't drive it hard. I have had three free alignments at the dealership and the alignment (The right front is even more bald then it was two months ago when i had the third alignment done) is still not right. Air pressure is fine also. My problem was excessive positive toe. I think our cars have a -1 toe out setting from the factory (Somebody correct me if im wrong) and my car had a total toe of +6.4. Im paying somebody else to do a "real" alignment this time.

Check out this post i made about my problem

Good luck with your problem hope you get your alignment straight :)

Wish i did, the mazdaspeed dealership doesnt have a clue, they keep on blaming my driving style :bs: (I have classes downtown, so they blame the roads down there) There is another guy on here by the user name conekiller he works at deltaV,which is a shop downtown (where i live) and as far as a know, he doesnt have any alignment problems on his MSP. I'll be getting another alignment later on this month at a different shop. I'll ask them to print a copy of the before and after alignment specs, that way i can see how much my alignment has changed since May when i had it done last at the dealership.

I know it sucks to hear this but at least you got 18,000 miles out of your tires, I only got 8100  I'm just really concered with making this alignment problem get fixed when i get new tires. I don't want to be replacing tires every 8,000 miles.

Get A regular Protege alignment or you will burn up the tires in 10 to 15 K Miles. Factory MSP tires are only good for 20 to 25 K miles with a regular Protege alignment. If you race, do the proper MSP alignment. For regular driving you won't notice the difference except in your wallet (moderate turning and some spirited driving).

This is a good reason not to believe everything you read.... especially on this forum... I had another 5-10k left on my tires at 22,k. Just depends on too many things to make a statement like this.

How do you get a regular Protege alignment when the wheel sizes and ride heights are completely different?

Sounds like Saban's doing the exact right thing... before and after specs, at a real shop.. Try to find someone with a nice Hunter machine... and/or good reputation.

Dealerships I've visited tend to have really outdated alignment equipment.. and have lied to me about what they've checked and/or done. YMMV

did u bang a curb? i say camber or toe out.

I did actually hit a 2x4 in the middle of the road one day right after I first got my car. I was sleepy and by the time I saw it, it was to late to avoid it. Shortly after I had to get my tire rod end replaced (maybe it was something else, I have the work order in my car) it began making noise, but I got my car aligned for the second time right after that. So even if the 2x4 knocked it out, it would have been set right by the alignment afterwards.... At least thats what I thought until my right front tire started showing more wear than the left front, then I rotated the front to the back and the rear tires to the front and the same alignment problem persisted. (strike)

I'm starting to believe this as well, especially after my third alignment and still having the same problem. Hopefully the shop I will take it too will have top quality stuff (evil)

Guys so i took my car to the dealership and they see that my alignment is on and they say dont even check the toe or camber and they conclude that i need to take the car to a shop that sells the tire to see if there is a manufacturer defect.

The dealership said that they don't even check the toe or camber when checking your alignment? Thats seems a bit odd...Maybe they are trying to get out of warranty work or something

They said that they didnt check that there and that they sent it out a tire company near by to have them check the alignment and when i asked them about the toe and camber they just said that the tire was probably a manufacturers defect and to try with someone that carries the tires.

Just got 4 brand new tires installed Bridgestone RE950, same size as stock.

The shop also had a Hunter alignment rack with the Mazda Speed specs in it, so I asked them to just check the alignment, and if it was off then do another alignment. Please keep in mind that i just had my third alignment done on May 13, 2004.
look!

I had my last alignment done at 7,335 miles and now at 8515 my alignment is off again, but only on the right front WTF?

I think my car may be a lemon.

Check out my tire wear on the right side tires. this was my right rear.

This was my right front. (Yes I know i took the pic backwards) i.e. The wear is on the outside edge even if the pic makes it looks like the wear is on the inside edge. I should have turned the tire around.

This tire was looked brand new when i rotated it to the front at 3,738 miles at 7,362 it looked like the picture above. In 3,624 miles the tire went to hell, WTF?
Compare this to my left side tires.

Thats BS. Improper toe will cause your tires to wear so fast. I am on my second set of stockers. The first ones wore 2 X as fast as the second ones are going. I got an alignment on the second set.
