Stock front strut replacement

I have an '04 3s and it needs front struts. I bought new OEM parts from one of the sponsors and took them to a shop to have them installed. (I put on the rear shocks myself but didn't feel like messing with a spring compressor tool for the fronts.)

The quote: $638.93. That's to install stock parts I'm providing. 9 1/2 hours labor and a $90 alignment (on what planet?!?). I'm sure that's the shop's way of saying "go away little man, we don't want to deal with someone who won't pay our parts markup".

HOWEVER...they said one thing that bothered me. They said you have to replace the stabilizer links when you swap out the struts. They quoted me $80 a side (I laughed when I found them listed for $15 from the place where I bought the struts.)

Is this true? Do I have to replace the stabilizer links along with the struts?
