Stock Audio in Protege 5

How good is the stock audio system in the P5 . The Dealer told me that it is 80 Watts . I would like a indash 6 CD changer but Mazda wants $ 719.00 for it . Thats seems a costly up here in Canada (notcool) .
Does anyone know of a aftermarket indash 6 CD changer that would fit nicely in the P5.

It depends what you're used to but it's not great by any means.
While I've lost touch with the 12v aftermarket I'm sure $720 will go much further in the aftermarket.

Max could be around 80 watts. RMS is probably closer to 10 watts per channel.

Stock Audio in protege is... ( i could say worse).... it's okay... needs 6 speakers instead of 4 and 2 10's in the back for bass, and a way better head unit.

$719.00 CAD for a 6-disc changer!!! Dude, i hope you don't go ahead with this. For less the $400CAD you can get a decent headunit with 3 sets of preouts (front, rear, sub) that can also play MP3! If you have a computer with a cdwriter, this might be a good choice for you. also, many headunits have a port on the back for attaching an external cdchanger if you choose to add one later on.

you in the toronto area? the people at toprotege.com might be able to help you out with retailers in that area.

holy crap 700 for a 6 disc? WTF!!! you can get an aftermarket HU that can play mp3's and also a 10disc changer for the trunk.. which can also play mp3's!!!!!!!!! screw factory audio it licks nuts. always go aftermarket for audio

The stock system in the P5 is horrible by any reasonable audiophile standards.

Of course, I'm downgrading from an Eclipse 5340.

related to this topic, I just got a new deck, amp, and sub... and am looking to unload the stock head unit. What do you all think would be a fair price to sell it on eBay for?

You might get $250 for it from a dumb ass, I'd only give you $100 if I was buying though.

~LOL~ That's what I'm hoping from eBay!! So if I start the bidding at $150 Canadian (approx $100 US) it should at least attract some attention.
