Stick Shift Rental

My brother wants to learn how to drive standard, but from what I know there's no such thing as standard transmission rentals around here. Can someone prove me wrong?

Most rentals are in fact automatic. Your car is a 5-speed, teach him on that.

you could always go with a 26' diesel Uhaul rental truck. just take out the damage waiver for $14 lol.

lmao... you guys, I can't believe they let you test drive the cars. Did anyone ever say anything to you? I learned simply by understanding the concept and then watching someone else. After that, my first attempt driving manual I never stalled once. The clutch wasn't old, but worn in enough to be forgiving of any newbness. When I first got the P5 brand new I stalled a couple times due to never driving a new clutch. Teach him on your car... worst case just have him chip in 200 bux for a nice new clutch down the line. I've taught several people on my car, and they all agreed to pay me out about 50 bux or so when it comes time for a new clutch. Not a bad deal...

I had my dad drive the cars off the lot and then we switched :D.

Now that I think about it, I believe Hertz is renting out '06 Mustang GT-H's in stick. Good luck finding one though..

I do believe they too are Auto.

Man, I wish I had a dad like that. I learned on a Cummins turbo diesel (hard to kill) then I got the MSP and finished learning on that. Now that know how to shift I would never go back to an automatic... I drove my mom's minivan yesterday and slammed on the brakes for no real reason at 20MPH. I wonder why... hmm, what happened to the clutch???? I should also mentioned that my brother almost hit his face on the dash... dangerous automatics!!

Same here, except, I first watched someone and then began to understand what it was and then started doing what I thought I saw and listened to the engine. I also was able to learn on my sister's Bimmer 323i, that was nice :)

Best way to learn would probably be by test driving used cars. Those dealers generally let you take the car out alone and you can do whatever you please with it lol.

there is a small rental place on the west side of US1 right after you pass 595 going north in Fort Lauderdale. I think its called able rental but i could be wrong. they carried stick shift aspires years back, i don't know what they have now and whether they even have sticks. but check with them.
