Ok,

Been playing DDR now for over a year now:

http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34508

But I needed something more portable (don't want to carry around PS2). Enter Stepmania I've known about this for a while, but I finally set it up last night on my Laptop, and my PC. I no longer need a PS2 to play Dance Dance Revolution. With Stepmania, you get so much more, and it's more portable!! Stepmania is basically a DDR/Exeed simulator, but it works so damn good. You can download THOUSANDS of songs, and play a few different games besides DDR. If anyone has ever played Exceed, then you'll love "Pump." I bought a PS2 -> Parallel Port adapter earlier this year, and installed a driver for it, and it worked! My dance pad worked! I took some screen shots last night that should be below. Hit up:

I played it a little over thanksgiving. My sis brought her xbox, and she bought an extra pad for two players. It was the first time I played it, but turns out I was whooping everyone. They called me lord of the dance. Not sure how I feel about that. It is a fun game, decent exercise, but if my roomate saw me on it, I'd never hear the end of it.
I bet there are people on here that do DDR, they probably afraid to admit it though.

I have stepmania, but the USB to Playstation converter I have can't do simultanious Left and Right, so I can't get any combos. :(

LMAO!!! I have some pictures from this morning's workout at the GYM at my job. I will have to upload them later..

DDR sucks play initial D!
Dude, this is about Stepmania.. Don't get me wrong, I am a big-time Initial D fan, but do you get a workout like this from the Initial D game? I am gonna have to kindly ask you to (gtfo)

Tell you what, I will make a thread for Initial D the game. (yes)

Hey, where did you get the adapter for parallel? I have the USB one that Kooldino was talking about, and while it works - it sucks for the same reasons he mentioned.

Oh, and nice hardpad!

Thanks! The adapter I believe I got from Buy N Shop

I had to download the driver from here: http://www.aldostools.com/dpad.html

You have to pay attention to which driver you install. For Windows XP, you need the NTpad XP. After you download the driver, you will want to install it as

Original Playstation

There may be more than one driver that tries to install...they are all for this, let the computer get the drivers automattically (recommended).

You will want to then go to the control panel ==> game controllers
==> NTPAD con ForceFeedback
NTpad.jpg

==> Properties
NTpad_main_unplugged.jpg

Go to the config tab, and check mark: Disable axes mapping (for games like Dandce Dance Revolution)
NTpad_config.jpg

After that, plug in your adapter, and go to the Main tab again.

NTpad_main_unplugged.jpg

You will see the two green dots up in the top, left corner with the controller not plugged in. It will also look like this if your controller is not calibrated. To callibrate plug in a regular PS/PS2 controller to the parallel adapter, and then, click the "callibrate" button. This will pop a window like so:

NTpad_Callibrate.jpg

Then do what the box above says, and then click "ok." After a second or so, your green dots should center like below. This is what the dot should look like with your controller plugged in:

The next thing you will want to do is map your buttons. Here is my mapping that works (may vary by pad):

NTpad_button_mapping.jpg

You can test your pad by steping on/pushing buttons, and brown number buttons should illuminate like below:

NTpad_left_right_reg.jpg

This is my right, and left arrow buttons registering together!!!

I hope this helps!!!
