So it's been 9 months since my last update. In those 9 months many things have changed:
- AutoExe SRI
- Mazda Racing 4-2-1 exhaust header and midpipe
- Racing Beat catback exhaust
- Racing Beat front sway bar
- CATZ fog lamps
I had an INJEN CAI, OBX exhaust header, Corksport catless midpipe/catback, and Racing Beat axle back. It was loud and droned on the freeway. Especially since I cracked the resonator (again). When the opportunity arose to get a new exhaust system, I couldn't pass it up. It sound so much better now. Almost too quiet. I'll definately need to relearn listening to my car.
My suspension is a hodge podge of stuff now, too. Stock front struts, Racing Beat springs, and TEIN SS Coilovers in the rear. Why such a FUBARed setup? Look
here. My repaired strut should be on its way back to me this week.
I also got some new fog lamps from CATZ. They're super bright yellow. I ended up doing a "custom" install since I have the MSP lip. They're actaully mounted directly to the bumper bar. Because of that, and the power steering cooling pipe, one lamp points up. Driving through neighborhoods I light up 2nd story windows. It's on my list of things to fix. Pictures can be found
here.
Oh yeah, tires. For at least the past 4 or 5 sets I've been using the Yokohama AVS ES 100s (both 16s and 17s) and have been really happy with them. But when it was time to get new tires I wanted something with more traction. According to TireRack the Yokohama AVID H4s had better dry and wet traction....plus they were cheaper. I thought I had a great tire.
I WAS WRONG. With my style of driving the AVIDs sidewall was way to squishy, and the 500 treadwear meant they were really hard. I can't wait to wear these out and put on some ES 100s again.
I think that's about it for now. Once I get my suspension back to 100%, I'll be happy with my car again. I just need some time to zero in the setting on my rear sway bar now that I have the new front sway bar.
