SRI hissing noises

I just got an AEM SRI installed in my P5. The kit came clearly used with a few bits missing and a bit of damage, despite being advertised as "brand new" on the forums, but I was able to buy all the parts for cheap and mend the damage.

Anyways there's a constant light hissing noise if you have the hood open at idle, and when you shut off the engine there's a louder hissing sound (probably because the engine's off) for about two seconds as air escapes from somewhere.

I personally thought this was normal since the intake sucks up extra air, but my friend who has installed an SRI on his Toyota said that the noise "is definitely indicative of a huge problem," and warns me not to drive the car around because initial damage to the kit might be causing some bad car breaking air leak.

If anyone has an SRI on their car, please let me know if this is indeed normal, or if my friend is right.

As reference damage was just a light bend on the main pipe connecting to the air filter which was slowly bent back into shape. On my test drive, the car drove just fine, sounded awesome and had noticeable power gains.

I'm pretty sure nothing's wrong but my friend seems postive something is, so let me know what you guys think.

if everything is tightly connected and your vac ports are either plugged or connected, then you shouldn't have a problem, mine has always sounded like that... you should hear a hissing noise, that's just the intake drawing up air, you should hear this a lot louder (not that loud) during higher rpms...

as for the hissing after the engine is shut off, is just the release of a little pressurized air going out of your intake...i always thought this is normal...

what do others think?

Thanks guys, yeah I'm fairly certain everything is fine. I took my P5 around a nice stretch of mountain road today with no problems; there was definitely more power and a really nice engine noise, which backs up the everything's fine feeling.

Your Toyota friend has no idea what he is talking about. There's no such thing as a "car-breaking air leak." If you're not getting enough air or have a vacuum leak, you're going to get a CEL. No CEL, no problem. The hiss is normal. Enjoy the SRI.
