sr20det in a p5

I'm with you.

I've been on the sr20 boards for a while, and I've never heard of anyone with this problem.

We have had the SR for over 2yrs now without a glitch. No oil pressure problems. Nothing.

just to clarify, top secret's supra is powered by the skyline engine...rb26dett.

Yup they got that one, and they have the one with the "highly tuned" MR-2 engine. They only use the one with the MR-2 engine for "salt flat" landspeed challenges.

they must be mistaken..i dont personally own anything nissan related so im just relaying what i've been told in the past..but I dont need the attitude..lets try to keep this somewhat flame free

BlueBird was in both FWD and AWD. I know cause I'm running a BlueBird motor in my Nissan.

Anywho, this idea did cross my mind before. I talked to Brandon from BLT (Barely Legal Transplant) and they said it was highly possible. Of course it was expensive. You'll be A LOT better off buying a 200SX and swapping a GTi-R or Bluebird in like I did.

that would be braden ;)

damn readings thru 4 pages of " its like this" NO " its like that"

sorry to be a dick but the only comment that made sense to me was the mans approach to the insane amount of money to make a protege into a different "econo" car is unbelievable. The 2.0l FS in the mazda is a great engine along with the 1.8
Stick with those two and you will have graet success. They both have oil jets to cool the pistons. Get some forged internals and you can be running 20psi of boost. Ive done it and there isnt too much on the road that can keep up. The only ones that can are cars that are built way beyond the protege class to begin with.

Sorry to bring this thread back alive. But anyway, it seems like USED SR20DET, USED tranny, USED ECU, install CUSTOM wiring harness, CUSTOM shifter, CUSTOM engine mounts, welding. These are the things that will be needed to successfully do this swap. My friend is about to get his s13 swaped with an sr20det, and he keeps telling me how rdiculously cheap these engines are now.

For example http://srownersclub.com/faq/faq_bluebird.asp

Now thats cheaper than any turbo kit out there. Considering that the www.hiboost.com turbo kit costs $4000 and if you don't do the install yourself, could run you up to $5000. Somehow I'm thinking the swap can be a competitive alternative.

Now what I wanna know is would about $3000 be able to cover the other parts needed, as well as the install? I have friends who could do the labor for free, but only if the needed parts can be obtained. Could $3000 cover the needed parts?

As for those that say a built up fs-det has as much potential as a sr20det. Maybe someday, but the sr20 just has had a much longer time to mature. I mean almost everyone I know with an sr20 is pushing over 300whp. Some are claiming +400whp potential. For me though, I'd be more than happy running a sr20det in its stock form, which would pretty much spank anything out there, and be running at stock specs.

blast from the past from when roy asked a lot of stupid questions. this thread should be put in the trunk of the car, like those dead puerto rican hookers.

Just a suggestion if you want an SR20DE: get a Sentra 2.0L (B15 chassis preferable)..

Having turbo'd a B15 before I bought the MSP I would highly suggest not picking a b15 chasis to build. They are the most complicated b.c they have the new roller rocker engines and even though stuff boltsup they are harder to tune. I had an SAFC for tuning and it was ok but everything is more complicated in a b15. Most of the turbo B15's I know out there switched the entire wiring harness out with a b14 so that they could use the JWT ECU's and what not..Also its not easy to do drop in of a bluebird/avanier engine b.c of the difference in wiring and other little things.. I am just speaking from experience about the platform... It can be done but it is not the easiest..

haha dude, i have seen that car on the track...

He offered to drag me @ carlsbad for cash... I said no way, turns out he was friends with peter (notorious). I think he ran a 12.00 something and he melted a spark plug half way down the track after spiking 30psi because his mbc was broke?

Peter you remember that? haha

But yes, that is an sr20, i have seen it, on the track, it is real life.
