** Spring Buyer's Guide **

has anyone been able to cantact spool about his springs? I have them on and would like to know some info cause i was thinking about the espelir springs.

After Market Springs

If I change the springs on my ES (to lower it), I know that I must are-allign everything, but how much more wear is there on the struts than stock...... and is it a much more bumpy ride ?

i've had my springs on oem shocks for about 15k miles and i think they've slowly went out on me, but they are a pretty stiff springs (450 lb/in), you should get a few more miles with springs made just for the lowered look, some of the ones from tein are about the same or even lower spring rates, but give a good drop...the bouncing happens from the shocks not being able to dampen the energy from the springs so the stiffer the spring, the bouncier it will be...at least thats what i'm feeling a lot now...

Mashi- you've got the Skunk2 coilsleeves right? Those(and GC's) will kill struts VERY quickly.

Other aftermarkets springs won't damage the stock struts nearly as quick. You should be able to get 2 years atleast out of them with something like the Tein, Goldline, Eibach etc springs on them.

02ESwBoost- ride quality is fairly subjective the ride won't be too much worse than stock unless you get coilsleeves. All the other springs available are still mildly stiff, by no means "race."

vindication- shoot Terry a PM, I doubt he's got the specs still though.

protejay5- if you can get anymore info than what you've PM'd me I'll try to get them up on the chart.

Maybe... I just went off Chris'(SPD) numbers. I seem to remember that someone said that those are the median rates for the springs and that they were indeed progressive. Maybe I'm confusing it with another spring, I'm not sure. If you can find some different info feel free to PM me with it.

HKS' SF5 springs are the latest in progressive rate springs and have been designed to improve your vehicle's looks and handling characteristics while maintaining ride comfort Installing SF5 springs will result in flatter cornering, better transitional response, and less weight transfer during rapid acceleration or braking. HKS springs are designed and manufactured using CAD technology and CNC machinery.

Being constructed of oil tempered silicon-chromium steel wire that is thinner and stronger than ordinary steel wire, allows the springs to be formed at specific spring rates with fewer coils. Less coils allows for more stroke and lower vehicle height. Each spring is shot peened, pre-fatigued, and electro-statically powder coated for durability. The SF5 line of springs offer a 5 year or 50,000km (approximately 31,000miles) warranty not to sag 5mm or more past the listed drop.

Protege5 2002-2003
part no. 81011-AZ007
lowering: front 32mm, rear 25mm
sug. retail: $315.00

how long is that to be exact?

how long do the msp struts last with stock springs ?
and what do u guys think of the sportlines ?

They should last 5years atleast. The Sportlines are cool... anything Eibach is fine by me lol

anyone with the Tein S-Tech's get any noises, just making sure before i switch my loud ass coilovers to lowering springs

i found some 18x7 with a +50 that i might try in the future

those should give me plenty of room from the fender and the coils :)

I just called Goldline, and the guy said that they are "variable pitch", which sounds like "progressive" to me. Also, the rates he quoted me (for the GPS-1100 model) were a tad softer than what was listed on the chart on page 1...

front: 140lbs variable pitch

rear: 130lbs variable pitch

Also, for alignment, you can get camber bolts (PN 81250)

yeah, Andrea (Dreeza) has the Espelir springs I think... she was happy with them, but I can't really recall much about what she said. they supposedly dropped her car pretty low (from what she said and the pics). I'll see what I can find.

well, I did find one pic of a car with these springs...
