Spicy down!

so what do you guys think about the used engines from protegegarage? I was thinking about getting one from Ken since it would be vastly cheaper than putting in a new bottom end.

From what i have read thus far ken's motors have been top notch, if installed properly.

Let me know if you do this because I want to know how long it takes for shipping (not just what they say), how well the motor comes (condition), and how well they pack it.

Will do man. Though sent to your house costs more than sent to a shop for some reason. At least that's what the site says.

well i just figured out that that little piece that i though was part of the block isn't. It's the Main Bearing Support Plate that costs $350 on PG. Anyone know where else i might be able to find one other than a Mazdaspeed dealership?

daam! thats a cool piece... didnt know the msp motors mbsp was that big...lol

im sure u can find a used one form someone.... if your tryin to save some pennies.

with another motor u find 2.0L u can remove the oil pan (so no metal flacks or chips can get into the motor and drill and tap the new/used motor's windage plate..10mm i think...and drill the center hole(return)..easy to do when the motor is out of the car..just make sure u clean all the metal out....

Ok guys, i need some help here. Everyone says Ken is a stand up guy, so i want to trust him, but i've heard other things from other people, including the mechanic that is taking care of my car. Are the internals on a stock protege engine the same as the MSP engine? Other than the intake and exhaust manifolds, is the only difference the Main Bearing Support Plate?

i believe the MSP internals are mildly heat treated, to sustain some boost, i dont think they are the same. but I talked to Ken a long time ago and he said he could get a used MSP long block for around $1000 with around 40k+ miles on it, I see no reason not to trust him, let me know if i can help. PM Me

I've never heard of the MSP internals being even remotely different from the average protege FS-DE internals.

I have torn apart my MSP engine and a used FS out of a Protege 5. The motors are the same. Only difference is the Main Support Tray, which does not have the oil return line. The only other difference is the oil lines for the turbo.

Well, i got the total today, and i'm looking at $6k in repairs. it's sucks, but i don't have much of a choice. I'm getting the transmission replaced too so that'll save me about $500, 3rd gear's back woot.

Of course i'll be selling some of the undamaged parts, like the head and intake mani, i hope. I'll have that stuff posted up as soon as i get it back from the shop.

dibs on the intake mani... can I have for the price of "on the house" ? If not, still interested. It'll cure my CEL woes.

I'm pretty sure the engine i bought comes with a new intake mani, but if it doesn't there's a P&P one in the FS forums http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123715247

If it does, you have dibs, but i have to figure out what would be an agreeable price for it. I have to try to pay some of this transplant off, lol.
