So its time to move back from LA to Boston next week. Motorcycle is getting picked up tomorrow, moving company is getting the rest on Sunday then it's time to fill the Speed6 and hit the road. I have a rough plan on google maps that shows me driving around 500-700 miles a day and getting back in 5 days. Anyone done this drive (or similar) in a car before and have any recommendations? (I've driven cross country when my band was in a van a million times with 5 other guys, but never with only a girlfriend who doesn't drive stick haha.) Thanks

its an amazing drive! i once did P.E.I, Canada --> LA which is an extra 1000km/12h of driving

C'mon...be a road warrior! In 1995 I drove from Gillette, WY to Roswell, GA in 24 hours. 1636 miles...in a 1993 Plymouth Sundance V6 with no cruise control.

In 2009 I drove a Suzuki SX4 from Dallas, TX to Rapid City, SD in 16 hours. 1056 miles.

I like to get the long trips overwith.....screw the scenery.

You can drive more than 500 miles a day, that's nothing. I've done Pittsburgh, PA to Ft. Lauderdale, FL straight in one day, think it's like 1200 miles and it took about 17 hours, stopping for gas, breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Alright just reading these comments I feel like I need to keep my manhood and knock a day off the original plan. 4 days it is.

I have done several cross country drives (LA-CT, CT-SD-CT-VA, VA-SF, SF-VA), all of them solo. The best advice I can give you is no mater where you are starting or ending, new Orleans is on the way. A night or two on Burbon St has been my rule of thumb. Highly recomend following this plan. Other than that, get off the Highway when you can to see the local sights. I will never forget the looks I got pulling into a gas station in the middle of OK somewhere at 0630 AM on a Tuesday, all hopped up on strong coffee, smoking a huge cigar and blasting Techno in my bright yellow P5. It seemed like the locals were not sure what to think, untill the saw that I had California plates on the car. Once they saw that they just sort of shrugged and moved on. It was classic. Seriously, make rough plans, but be ready to change them for if you see anything worth checking out. I once was driving accross the country on my birthday. i spotted a sign for a BBQ dinner that was being put on by the local Fire Department. Even though I was planning on going another few hours i stopped and fit up the BBQ. It made for a great Birthday Dinner. Lots of good times can be had if you remain flexible and keep your eyes peeled.

......Or, you can do it in 4 days (or even 3, BTDT) and see nothing. Ten years from now, which story do you want to tell?

Well I have traveled the country (and world) non-stop for the past 7 years for my job (being a musician is fun) so I have definitely seen EVERYTHING and then some. And I can definitely relate to the craziness you run into (although I think New Orleans and Bourbon St is my hell: gross girls, old drunk guys, humidity, and overactive cops, the night has never ended well there for me.) So I think this time I'm just gonna suck it up and drive until I can't drive anymore for a few days. Maybe I'll throw a few pictures up along the way.

I say screw the hyper-miling approach. I tried to drive home alone from college (Providence, RI to Louisville, KY) when I was younger (this would be 1985); it took me 16 hours. When I got home, I just slept but kept waking up thinking I was still behind the wheel. It was miserable.

we were on a time line when we went, we were delivering the car from charlottetown,PE and had 6 days to get to the LA airport... how we got there was up to us as long as we were there to meet the owner when he got off the plane... we only made long stops in the key spots... 1 night in boston (where my sister lived), the next long stop wasnt till we got to the grand canyon, then vegas, then off to LA we went

haha god I know the feeling of thinking you are driving while in bed half asleep....

I've driven from toledo OH to leon, gto, Mexico which is a 35 Hr drive, I usually drive 15 to 18 hrs to San Antonio then get up 6am drive 18 hrs to my destination. Hard drive but nice scenery. Won't be driving there for now due to all the damn violence up north Mexico. And because we have a baby. But I hope we can take a trip from Ohio to California next summer in my mustang,
