Speed does not kill, not being prepared kills, not maintaining your car kills, other people kills.
You can very well die from a 30 mph crash, and dont think just because your obeying with the speeding rules posted one million years ago and never changed WITH technology does not mean you cannot crash, miss something, or something go wrong with your car.
Having said that, yes its harder to avoid a collision with a dumbass if your going faster (obviously car takes longer to stop, less maneuverable etc etc)
but I think of myself as a WAY better driver when im driving spirited because I pay soo much more attention.
According to this videos we should all go hide in our bathrooms and never come out...oh wait a plane, asteroid or insert your big moving object here, can crash into your house and kill you.

I think you almost said the same thing that the dude from the M5board forums said. But than he went out and crashed while driving "spiritedly" and killed the 4 other people in his car. The m5 handles and drives much better than our car, so just be careful is what I'm saying, that's all.

Thats ironic, but when you crash and burn because your speeding is not necessarily because your speeding, its because your a bad driver. Granted you can be the best driver in the world and blow a tire while driving...i dont believe in luck but call it what you wanna call it, its not your day hehe, Just dont be afraid of living your life thats all im saying, now live smartly and to your limits (humpleg)

one of the major things about speeding that it causes you to have tunnel vision the faster you go. that isn't driver specific, it is just science.
bottom line, the faster you go; the longer it takes to stop, the more tunneled your vision gets, and the more of a threat you pose to all of the cars around you.

i have been waiting for the rainbow to pop up with "the more you know" written across the screen.
I am a very fast driver too. Had my licsense for 20 years now and never got into a accident that I have caused. I am a fast but defensive driver. I always try to anticipate every cars actions at all times. Keep two hands on the wheel at pretty much all times and leave enough room in front. I do not drive fast in the rain or snow, in fact I am probably slower than most other drivers in those conditions.
I think some of the slower drivers are a more hazard on the road. They seem more irratic and not aware of what is around them.

crazy vid, i like to haul ass from time to time(but i am always the fastest to get to the speed limit haha) but only when the roads are pretty much clear off trafic and all that, its not that i dont trust myself its i dont trust others on the roads at all
Everyday I get more and more pissed about todays drivers in America. What sends me ever more into a level of anger, is adults saying that our new young drivers need more training, when its the adults who are the ones who have the bad driving habits. We really need to start a new system, very much along the lines of the germans. Im tired of americans being "always right" ARGH!!!!
um when I was 16 it was so easy to get the license that I didnt even know what the **** half of the signs meant lol................
I drove my car with the guy that was testing me for um 4 minutes lol.........
Now what the **** do you expect me to do with 300horses.........Im happy I didnt crash or kill anyone after all this stupid s*** I did from age of 16 to 18.....
It's mostly young people that dont have imagination man, they dont know how car is going to react to a sharp turn, or when a tire blows.
But at the same time there's alot of people out there who shouldnt be driving with out couple months of training.
Car is like a gun....in wrong hands its going to do alot of damage, and destroy many families.
I always up my alert level whenever I get behind someone going slow, I find these types people the most dangerous. They tend to slam on their brakes for no reason at all, or with no warning at all, make a sudden turn.
I don't think parents should just give cars to their kids, especially sports cars. Make kids earn money to pay for the car themselves, they will value it better.

mine was 25 questions, what's sad is I had never even picked up the book and passed with a 90%. With that being said, I'm lucky I never got into an accident when I first got my license. I never went extremely fast, I'm not going to lie 100+ on streets scares the poop outta me... I was a weaver though, until I got a ticket and that pretty much stopped. I'm a lot more cautious now, especially behind elderly/slow drivers because they bake too much and too hard. What really irritates me is the ricers in there POS civics and crap that are like "ZOMMMGGG ITS A SPEED3" and try and race me, in traffic, while I have a baby in the backseat and he has a car of 5 people. Revved at me and sat at my door for 4 miles and I really wanted to get out, punch him in the face, get back in the car and drive off.

I don't think any of us can really claim to be error proof drivers, and the fact of the matter is no matter how careful you are there's always a chance that something can go very wrong; hell even in controled environments like racetracks you have freak incidents (a deer running across the track at just the wrong time, like the case of former Champ car/F1 hotshoe Christiano Da Matta). I'm not trying to preach here, since I enjoy driving fast and I'll keep doing it in the right places, but it's dangerous to be arrogant/overconfident, and although I'm a bit of a fatalist/determinist, I don't think it's smart to play too much with the odds.

It's up to the parents and the kid, but having the kid work for his car will be a sure fire way of making him appreciate it.
I do think, however, a parent should make sure he gets the best possible education, and that applies to the road too. I wouldn't hesitate to plop down some 3 grand in order to get my kid through a program like Bondurant's Advanced teen driving.
