specs for stock MS3 subwoofer?

:
2007 Mica Blue Mazdaspeed 3
What is the specs for the stock subwoofer that is under the passenger front seat on Mazdaspeed 3's with the Bose systems? All I have been able to determine is that it's a 5 1/4" speaker size.
- Is the stock sub powered?
- Would replacing the stock sub with an aftermarket, under seat, powered subwoofer like the Kenwood KSC-SW10 (5"x7" speaker; 38 watts of power) improve the bass?

I'm not looking for bone rattling bass and I would prefer to keep using the stock under-front-passenger-seat location.

Thanks for your help!

Good luck with that man. I was trying to find out info on that too and went to my dealer. The tech couldn't even find it and when I told him that it was maybe under the front pass seat he was like "oh yeah thats where it is". I asked them if it needed to be fixed b/c it sounded like it wasn't even working and they said it was just not that loud. Pissed off I asked if I could do anything to make it bump more and he said I might void the warranty on the stereo if I tried anything. bulls***!

Sorry, can't help you with the specs, but I'd imagine anything is better that the stock sub. The thing is a complete joke. Yesterday I decided to get the change out of the sub box that was causing the very annoying rattle I've been hearing for months. It makes a VERY efficient change catcher though. I took out 3 quarters, 1 dime, 1 nickel, and 6 pennies. Anyway, I unbolted the seat and sub and then opened up the speaker cover and here's what I found. I didn't measure, but it looks more like 3-4 inches. (yupnope)

While I agree it's not loud, I still think it's pretty balanced with the BOSE system. I think I have my bass turned up to 4 or 5 and sounds fine. I'm mean its not gonna tump T-Pain or anything, but it's really not designed to. Bose has never really been about powerfull bass, more a balanced sound.
Not sure if it has it's own power or if it shares with teh rest of the system. I think if you put a new speaker in, you might have to power it.

I have an 8inch JL laying around that i would be interested to see if i could make an inclosure for it to fit under the seat. That or a stealth box in the back.

To my experience, it sucks. It is terrible. The front speakers do more than the sub, it ould probably be better to take out the sub and save the power and 2 pounds it weighs. Sorry to sound kinda ranty but I'm sure most of you would agree that the stock BOSE sub is terrible.
