Just got my 2006 Miata...you know, the model without a spare. Has anyone looked into buying a space saver spare for the car? I don't like the idea of a long drive without a spare. I will try junk yards, but thought someone might have a better idea ? Thanks

If you bought it from a Mazda dealer, you should have free roadside assistance. Who changes their own tires these days! I know how you feel but that's Mazda's take on it.:)

If you want a spare tire, look for a '89-'91 RX-7 spare tire, it's light wieght alloy, fits your car, etc. Another choice would be the RX-8 spare tire, but it's yellow!

RX-8 and RX-7 is 4x100 too?

I woulda figured and easier answer would have been the spare for the 89-95 mx-5.

OR, am I wrong in just assuming mazda didnt change the lug pattern for the mx-5?

Mazda did change the lug pattern on the newer gens - now 5

I've heard/seen pics of the '89-'91 Rx-7 spare and they do fit into the trunk of the NC (2006+ miata)

I believe that other mazda new gens run with the same lug pattern/offset - ie. mazda3, mazda5, mazda6, rx-8, but I believe that they all run with different tire sizes - so although the spares from those cars will fit - I'm not sure if the final diameter will be correct for the 2006. I have a mazda5, but I haven't taken the spare out for comparison. If I do, I'll post my findings.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I won't be carrying the spare all the time. But I'm planning a trip from Southern California to Monterey via the Coast Highway, and there some places on the highway that don't get cell phone reception. Heading up to Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca for Champ Car spring training in March. Alone. Just me the highway, and my Miata. Sweet.

Put a full sized spare in the passenger seat.
